Has anyone heard "Hypnagogue" yet? Due to certain technical
problems I am unable to download and listen to the samples..
From what I gather from the review I'm sure it's wonderful
though. I really like the direction David Tibet has taken
C93 in the past few years; 'Soft Black Stars' remains to be
one of the most honest and poignant albums I've ever heard.
Melancholic grandeur.
That 'Antony : Androgynous Zone' sure looks nice. Has
anyone here ever witnessed him perform live before? I went
to see the Johnsons perform at the Andy Warhol Museum about
a year and a half ago.. I sat in the front row and he
fluttered his eyelashes at me as he sung 'I'm in Love with a
Dead Boy' - transformative. There were literally torrents
of tears running down the aisles. We've been keeping in
touch since then and I might go stay with him for a few
weeks this summer before I set out to conquer the world.

I like Dogs Blood Rising, I find it hard to get into
his more folky stuff. "Larkspur and Lazarus" is a great song
off Soft Black Stars

What about Thunder Perfect Mind? That's my favourite C93
release.

I really like the first half of Thunder Perfect Mind.
1. A Beginning
2. The Descent of Long Satan and Babylon
3. A Sadness Song
4. A Song for Douglas After He's Dead
5. In the Heart of the Wood and What I Found There --
probably my favorite song on record. The rest don't settle
so well with me.. Something just sounds out of place.
There are a few bits towards the end that I do like though -
and the photos in the interior are lovely, particularly the
one of John Balance peaking through the ivy.

Am I the only devotee on this message board? It seems to me
that there were at least a handful of you at one point or
another. It might interest some of you Bjorkians to know
that she provided backup vocals on C93's 'Island' record.
Fellow Icelander Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson(of Sigur Ros and
Psychic TV fame) was also involved in the recording and
intrumentation - a presence definately felt when listening.

Soft Black Stars, Dog's Blood Rising, Nature Unveiled,
Thunder Perfect Mind, Crooked Crosses for the Nodding God,
Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre, I've gotten to know these
albums fairly well, so where do I go next?

I think SBStars and Ruine are my faves so far... those spare
piano songs have enamoured even my mother. I'm listening to
Earth Covers Earth right now, lots of electric guitars which
is kind of strange...

Tell me more about that Nature and Organisation (sp?) thing,
whodunnit and all that.

I reserved a copy of England's Hidden Reverse directly from
Durtro. It, along with the cd, should be here sometime in
june.

Hourglass(for Diana) and Rome(for Douglas P.) are my
favorite songs off of Earth Covers Earth. It's a pretty
good record though not one of my favorites.. The cd sleeve
art is a tip of the hat to The Incredible String Band's 'The
Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' album.

Nature and Organisation(English spelling) is the musical
endeavor of Current 93 guitarist Michael Cashmore. He's
only released two full records, one of which was unfinished.
'Beauty Reaps the Blood of Sorrow' is definately in my All
Time top ten list. Take a look here as I don't have time to
convey right now:
http://www.longshadows.com/23.html
Check out the rest of the page afterwards - very well done.
You may like 'I Have a Special Plan for this World'. Tibet
reading a short story by Thomas Ligotti over an eerie
swirling atmosphere.. Unsettling.

Suffering), 'Immortal Bird'(from Sleep Has His House) and
'Butterfly Drops'(from Bright Yellow Moon).

i'm browsing sites to see what's available... not many are!

'Soft Black Stars', nowhere available.. but it seems like i
can get 'Emblems - The Menstrual Years', double CD, nice
artworks and 4.5 stars on AMG... do you recommend it? : )

(can't find sound samples anywhere)

The Menstrual Years are awesome, great compilation and it's
good for me too since I'm a beginner. But maybe you should
hear it from Cabbog 93 though, cuz he's the pro. I'm a mere
apprentice. I like it though.

I've been listening to Nature and Organisation the last
little while... Snow Leopard is nice if unexciting, but
Beauty Reeps is really breathtaking. Now this is some
delicious Apocalyptic Folk. A Dozen Summers is next on my
hitlist.

good then ^^

other releases that are said to be available would be Hitler
As Kalki, Crooked Crosses...
and also Sleep Has His House, Some Black Stars Seen Over
London, Crystal, Crowleymass... (but those would take much
longer to ship). and a lot of others too but of course with
those artists i guess you've got big chances that you wait
for a month or two, then get told they're unavailable...

nevermind for the sound samples... i didn't see some were at
the official site! (and they're working, which is rare
enough for brainwashed.com sound samples to be signaled...)

(for the hypnagogue ones, the link is broken. they linked to
".mp3" without what was before the extension.)

What sites are you browsing? If you live in north America
http://www.strangefortune.com is your best bet. The prices
are ludicrously low and availability is rarely a problem.
Just make sure to check with Mr. Michael J. on the delivery
time..
As for recommendations, I'm not really sure what to tell
you. My personal favorites are marked above.. A lot of
people advise starting at the beginning and working your way
up. I'm not sure if I'd agree though. I guess your best
bet would probably be to download a few songs off of the
albums that sound interesting to you and get your
impressions there.

i don't live in north america... i live in france and were
browsing amazon (.fr, .de, .co.uk) and fnac.com.

anyway i ordered emblems - the menstrual years, i'll see
afterwards in other sites maybe for another album if i like
it! : )

i got it and i like it very much!
'Diana', 'The Ballad Of The Pale Christ', 'Happy Birthday
Pigface Christus', 'Maldoror Is Ded Ded Ded Ded', 'Hooves',
'Broken Birds Fly' are my favorites...

there is also a nice remix-destruction of California
Dreamin' in 'Great Black Time II'!

a lot of tracks (especially in disc 1) are actually
excepts, that needs to be noticed though it is all very
good... i'd like to hear the entirety of some of the tracks
in excerpts.

I'm a huge Current 93 fan. I actually got Of Ruine Or Some
Balzing Starre and Some Soft Black Stars Seen Over London
(the live Soft Black Stars album) in the post this morning.

Favourites:
1.Soft Black Stars
2.Thunder Perfect Mind
3.Some Soft Black Stars Seen Over London
4.All The Pretty Little Horses
5.Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre

Dogs Blood Rising is an incredibly interesting album, but I
can't listen to 'Jesus Wept' - it's really fucking evil. The
only piece of music to actually scare me.

I really love Tibet's latest work the most, though. I want
to get Sleep Has His House (kind of like Soft Black Stars
only with Harmonium instead of Piano) and In A Foreign Town,
In A Foreign Land.
Island is another I need to get. I have a lot of mp3s, and
Anyway, People Die and Passing Horses are two of my
favourite C93 songs.

All The Pretty Little Horses would be a good place to head
next, only it's very, very out of print (they go for a lot
on Ebay these days).

All the currently available stuff is available from their
manufacturers and distributers, World Serpent, at
www.worldserpent.com - I always get my stuff from there
(although they are sometimes a little slow on shipping).

My personal favourite C93 tracks:
KillyKillyKilly (from In Menstrual Night)
Anyway, People Die, Passing Horses (from Island)
Hitler As Kalki, A Silence Song, A Sadness Song (from
Thunder Perfect Mind - actually, most of this album)
All The World Makes Great Blood (from Of Ruine Or Some
Blazing Starre)
The Inmost Night, This Carnival Is DEAD And Gone (from All
The Pretty Little Horses)
A Gothic Love Song, The Signs In The Stars, Whilst The Night
Rejoyces Profound And Still (from Soft Black Stars)
I Have A Special Plan For This World (from EP of the same
name)
Immortal Bird, Red Hawthorn Tree (from Sleep Has His House)

Okay, I think that's enough from me for now. ;)

what is really to understand in the stairs song?

"Oh when she fell down the stairs
I tried very hard not to laugh
Gripping the bannister
Gripping my crutch
I tried hard not to go to her
I tried hard not to go to her
There is something of Heaven in death
There is something of Heaven in death"

it sounds evil...

If you like piano based music, get Soft Black Stars, it's so
beautiful!

I'm just attempting to get into the more chaotic early stuff
like Dog's Blood Rising... unsettling stuff. It unsettles
me.

Dogs Blood Rising is VERY unsettling. I think that's the
desired effect, but I really can't listen to it sometimes.

Anyway, this weekend, I got a few more C93 discs.
Swastikas For Goddy - this one is completely and utterly
stupid. Twisted, but fun. Not exactly my favourite C93,
though...
In A Foreign Town, In A Foreign Land - the soundtrack to an
accompanying Thomas Ligotti book. This is utterly, utterly
brilliant. The whole thing is a very scary, brooding dark
ambient soundscape, with a few lines from the text read by
David Tibet. Brilliant.
The Great In The Small - every C93 track ever, all played
ontop of each other. Er...yes. It's interesting, and some
moments are wonderful. It probably won't be a regular
listen, though.

If you like piano music and Soft Black Stars, get the latest
one, Hypnagogue (I think it was released just as 'David
Tibet', I'm not sure... from earlier this year). It's a lot
like Soft Black Stars. I've just ordered my copy.
