that is one strange bridge! and something tells me it's not
the translator's error either. thanks for the lyrics.

'turtle heart' could refer to the fact that we tend to
retreat into our shells when hurt..., like a turtle. And the
song is about healing such a hurt person...

JivverDicker: your spelling is confusing, i could translate
if you name the specific song

saying there? i prolly looked up all this years ago... this
is one of my top 5 bjork songs, easy.

vespertine covers a broad range of emotion making the whole
movement very 'real' in that real life is never simply
ecstatic or great, but the over all experience for me is one
of bliss.

alnuit, i agree with your interpretation again! you're good.
obviously these interpretations are still just that, but
it's interesting to get to the bottom of some of these
lines. the first 2 albums are so much easier to decipher!

Thats true. Debut is awfully simple. Post is harder, but
still ok. Homogenic is abstract and surreal beyond words.
Vespertine has all but sublimated meaning. With verspertine
all yuou have are smoke rings and wisps of ideas. Listening
to it is like walking through a cloud.

I wish she would tour India. After all, Verandi was arranged
in part by an Indian. Talvin Singh who produced some of her
early stuff is Indian.

jupitah, click onto my page (f2k), go to the
bjork lakexperience part, click stimmung! it's a stockhausen
piece from the '60s. tripped out!

speaking of cloudy vespertine and your avatar (i think), how
amazing would a cLOUDDEAD/bjork remix or collabo be?! of all
the ideas i had recently about bjork remixes that was my fav
one.

out next april the earliest, as I said, there isn't any
songs yet. youl'd like 'where is the line' but it's half

madur levendir (maður lifandi spelled correctly) =
my god ...literal translation is = man alive

i can't make out the words in immature after she sings "how
extremely lazy of me" ...i don't think it's icelandic, maybe
mixture of icelandic and english. in the last part she might
be saying "and bíður eftir love" = and waits for love, but
i could be wrong

My girlfriend is icelandic and I've asked her for the worst
sayings I can say as an exclamation. I can't translate
other than 'what is jumpin;' say it, kvet e hoppandi.
Youcan work it out?

that line in "immature" makes sense, but surely the rest of
it is in icelandic too? otherwise what...? it doesn't sound
english to me..

if it's 'what is hopping' then it should be spelled 'hvað
er hoppandi'

'hellvidur koool' ...helvíti kúl = fucking cool / cool
as hell

kvet e hoppandi (wrong spelling) ...lol, it doesn't mean
'what is hopping'

hvað í hoppandi = what the hell / what in the name of god

there's a big book out with interpretations of all of her
songs up through vespertine.. a lot of them from bjork
herself.. i think, maybe not..

i'll see if i can find it again..

but anyways.. i've always thought 'an echo, a stain' was
sort of a creepy infatuation/love song.. kinda like 'i miss
you' but more ominous.. the "sorry you saw that / sorry he
did it/ an echo/ a stain" part makes me think of some
infidelity possibly?

as for "the fountain of blood"... notice in the book let she
puts "my love" in parenthesis.. i think she uses blood as a
symbol of passion or energy or life.. i remember she said of
"its in our hands": "It was nice to do a full-blooded song
after doing a whole album that didn't have any blood in it,
though that was the point with Vespertine, that it was
see-through like a crystal."

bjork has an odd lyrical sense.. like a weird combination of
naivete and sophistication.. just in interviews, she
describes things in awkward ways, though, the fact that her
mind operates in such a different way shouldnt be much of a
surprise..

naivete and sophistication
bit especially...like in

she really does have an odd lyrical sense... which is why
the collaborations with wu-tang that she did (but remain
unreleased) make so much sense.. it takes people years to
figure out some wu-tang lyrics

i know exactly what you mean. anyone who's ever really
listened to her probably does. but naivete suggests
foolishness, not knowing any better. i tend to think she is
fully conscious and this quality of her is more innocence
than naivete. she's a playful spirit, even in her most
'serious' lyrical moments. she's a poet!

tits, clouded on echo a stain, perfect!

yeah, 'innocense' is probably a better word..

i just think its interesting how she writes really odd
abstract lyrics that make perfect sense and that you can
somehow relate to them.. a bit like thom yorke actually,
though less morose

vespertine is mostly sexual, love making and the
relationship between two people both music and lyrics
cocoon is hard core sex lyrics
pagan poetry is preparing for marriage
unision is comitment

there are other levels of interpretation as well, for most
of the songs. for most art actually, whether the artist is
conscious of it or not.

i thought fountain of blood shaped as a girl was a
reference to menstruation. i agree that the album is very
sexual. many references to ejaculation ("a train of
pearls") and the like.

He slides inside
Half awake, half asleep
We faint back
Into sleephood
When I wake up
The second time
In his arms
Gorgeousness
He's still inside me

the sexual reference seems pretty obvious here too.
"when i wake up the second time" is a reference to
multiple orgasms.

and:
In the sleeping curves of my body
Shall enter fingers
Of smooth mastery
With chasteness of sea-girls
Will I complete the mystery
Of my flesh
Will I complete the mystery
Of my flesh
My flesh

is probably a reference to achieving orgasm by masturbation.

of course! cocoon is almost porn ;) kidding, but you get my
point..

i just don't think sex is the only thing that inspired the
album, even if it is the key influence and overall theme

evolume > i'm not the only one! ^^
(who thought 'bachelorette' was a very poetic song about
some sexual matter)

i'm really wondering what the parts she sing in icelandic
(or any other language) mean... they're recurrent in many of
their songs btw... something sounding a bit like "angina
chtaael" (??)... or "huta! huta!" in headphones (but this
one only appears one)...
