i spotted this on alt.music.autechre

After their mix on the Breezeblock, we sat down for 5
minutes with Autechre
as they filled out our Breezeblock Questionnaire

What's your name?
Autechre

Where do you live?
On this side...

Are you a producer/DJ/other?
Producers & DJs... What's the difference?

Did you always want to make music/be a DJ?
Yes. We were born with a full understanding of electronic
music production.
Even as zygotes we had an impressive understanding of
synthesisers and dope beats!

What got you into it?
Our parents. Naturally...

Tell us about your favourite piece of studio/DJ equipment
and why you like it

That's easy, the ninch generator. Possibly the most
infuriating instrument ever devised. it spits plastic beads
out onto your face as you play it,
while a picture of Michael Landon from Highway To Heaven
flashes on and off.
It comes preloaded with James Brown samples.

What was the first piece of equipment you got, how old
you were and what did you do with it?

First thing I got was a Bontempi Organ which I broke by
putting it in the
bath cos I wanted to hear it bubbling. It was one of those
ones that pumps
air through it. It worked underwater for about 3 mins.

Do you think that you need loads of kit to make good
records?

No. you just need something to capture audio with. A
dictaphone would be
enough.

Can you recommend a good piece of equipment for
beginners?

Get a 10 quid recording walkman that has a pause button.
