right. While I jump in a taxi @ 1:30 am and go to the
garage to get some smokes, have any of you ever tried to
quit smoking? Did it work? How long for? And what did you do
to stop yourslf smoking?

I'm only quitting fags btw. pOgO still says - "Smoke dope"

Quit Heroin & Crack and then come talk to me...

Smoking is, at best, a bourgouis decandence.....nothing
more, nothing less...

(Good luck with the giving up BTW...sorry if I sound kinda
harsh, i don't mean to...)

I know a few people who quit. It's different for everyone. I
don't know... Depends how badly you want it.

At the moment, the worst part is not wanting a smoke, it's
my fucking chest. There's 7 years worth of shit trying to
escape all at once !

Jand: I know what you mean, but I hope I never ger addicted
to those, or even try them for that matter. Smoking is such
a common habit yet still very addictive.

Trying to quit anything, even as minor as biting your nails
can be hard, but any kind of physical addiction is a
struggle to to break, even if it's a minor one.

I've been smoking since I was 13, and I'm 21 now so really
it's always been a part of my life.

It took me a few runs at it before I was successful.
Basically, I learned that you have to resign yourself to
feeling very shitty for a few days, then vaguely hollow for
a week or two. This is offset by the fact that you will feel
better in general after those first few days... less crabby,
less rushed, less stressed. Healthier. More content.

After two weeks you only have to worry about hanging around
with smokers and going to bars... things can trigger a
powerful psychological need even after the chemical need has
died down.

Don't tell yourself that you can have just one or two,
because you WILL feel crabby again for a day after. It's
just not worth it.

Getting through the firsst few days is fucking tough if you
have a powerful addiction. You have to recognize your foul
mood is just the Tobacco Demons and not the people and
things you want to act out against. It's like riding around
on a powder keg for a few days. You have to bite your tongue
and count to ten all the time. Your mantra must be:

It's chemical, it's temporary.
It's chemical, it's temporary.
It's chemical, it's temporary.
It's chemical, it's temporary.

Good luck - it's SO worth the effort!

It was easy for me to quit cigarretts, mainly because I
never started in the first place. Good luck pogo, try
smoking weed if you feel like you need a cig.

I quit over last summer, and it worked... cause I was at
home with my parents... but as soon as I got back to school,
I was smoking like a chiminey.

What I realized i needed was some kind of reminder. Like a
ribbon on your finger kind of thing...

so, I got my labret pierced. Everytime I feel like a cig, I
feel the stud in my mouth, and remember I made a promise to
myself.

Its hard though... there are many times I feel like "oh one
cant hurt" and you have to just have will power.

I had dreams for 3 weeks about smoking after I quit...

Buts its been a month and a half.

that would be GREAT...... but I'm outta weed =o(

Zeus: hmmmm.... piercing myself is a bit extreme, but I
think I can do the ribbon ;o,

well, I wanted the piercing anyways... it wasnt like a
random idea...

but it served a greater purpose.

i regularly i can go 4 days w/o a fag, if im not doing
anything. and even though i understand the addiction
completely i cannot avoid it. interesting shit if at the
same time painful. i prefer to give into it and concentrate
on (what i see) more important things.

your lungs will thank you for it tho =0) and DO NOT tattoo
your forehead! it will look funny when you're 80 or
something.......ehhehhehe =b

Cigarettes are apparently more addictive than heroin.
Heroin is just much much much worse for you.

People who have never smoked have no idea what it's like. I
would have the "occasional" cigarette when I was drinking.
It's hard to control a physiological addiction.

pOgO, you have my best wishes!

It's really not bad... once you make it over a certain
hump.

I quit tobacco, though I admit I had only been smoking for
three years. I was completely adicted, but I'm sure the
years beat it into you deeper and deeper. I just excepted
the fact that I was going to pay the price and be in
miserable pain. It took complete faith that I would be paid
for my suffering and be thankful. It was incredible
difficult to think about the benefits and not the sweet
nicotine fix. Sleepless nights, hellish shifts at work and
D's in school were countered by the fact that I couldn't
ignore my body any longer. FOCUS ON YOUR BODY. In full
awareness of what you are doing to yourself, how could you
continue? It's disgusting and will eat you away for the
rest of your life like a parasite unless you quit. And it
MUST be ASAP. Like NOW! I made it and I love myself for
it. You will too.

The thing with quitting smoking cigs is you just have to
REALLY decide and then it's painless (well, almost). You
have to actually want to, not just do it out of guilt or
fear and then as soon as you think OK, I want to quit, do
it. The worst thing, IMO is 'cutting down' and making games
and rules and shit for yourself. I'm trying to quit smoking
weed right now and it is a struggle because I'm not sure if
I want to or not, which leads to constant questioning and
on-the-fencing and all that typa shit, which is the hard
part.

I started smoking cig but especially weed when i was twelve
when i was about 14 i used all types of drugs smoked 3 to 4
packages of cig a day and wass non-stop stoned (started at
6:30 in the morning till the last spliff for bedtime)
but.....i eventually stopped almost a year ago and i'm 23
these days.
the reason was that i was coughing black/brown slime (yugh)
so what i did was set a date (in my case there was a huge
party), so i partied like hell, using all kinds of drugs,
smoked like an idiot and drank like an alcoholic.
the next day i felt so fucked up it was a good time to stop
and never touched a cig/spliff or other shit anymore.
cig addiction is all in the head it isnt hard at all, only
if you really want it.
and if that doesnt work you should read an allen carr book
or session (worked for many people i know)
www.allencarrseasyway.com/main.htm
good luck

a hint. while you are giving up don´t let anyone even talk
about ciggies around ya.. asking how its going etc. TOTALLY
blank them and don´t casually mention to friends "just had
2 this morning, i can do this." make it utterly private and
your own thing.. it worked for me. Also... go up and
secretly smell a smoker ...... it´ll put ya off for life!
