the internet has really gone mad. besides the xltronic
forum and mp3 sharing, i don't spend my time surfing
anymore. porno porno porno divx mp3...
lots of bullshit and if you really need something you can't
find it.
for example: it's really important for me to find some info
on the SONY PS-T33 DIRECT turntable... so i look in the
internet and bullshit, nihil...

It's interesting that all of our inventions mainly end up
being used for entertainment.. I mean, what else is there to
DO with it?? We can build some robots or something in the
future, but what's the point if the result doesn't entertain
us?

I think there should be "internet moderators" basically
their browsers are the same as everyone else's but they have
three extra buttons:

Temp. Close website:
Sends automated email to site author "Your Website x is
shite... it has been taken down for 1 week. Improve it or we
will remove it in one months time. "

Close Website:
As above, but "Either we warned you before or your site is
beyond help. Go home and die." It would then delete the site
entirely and simultaneousl destroy all mirrored ones.

Ban Author:
As above, but applied to all sites the author has had a hand
in, author banned from using the internet ever agian and
following email sent "d00d, U SuXXXor!!!1!!! In the interest
of public wellbeing you are no longer allowed to even surf
the net."
You're"

The internet is the last free fontier. But that wont last
much longer because there are people like Ceri JC in the
world that want to have internet moderators and opress
people not only in the real world, but in the artificial
world of the internet. Yea, fuck free speech, whats it good
for anyway. Hey while we are at it, lets set up a one world
goverment..

:P

It has the potential to be a HUGE potential parrallel
computer according to w. daniel hillis. Hell, you probably
could program the entire ALGORITHM for chess with that.
Instead of Kasparov VS. Deep Blue, it'd be Kasparov VS. the
internet! (and it'd be impossible to win)

not true that it's shit - people don't use it properly - ie
you don't go to the bank to buy eggs or the pub to hear the
latest financial reviews.
people tend not to go to the sources of information on the
net or don't know how to look for it or get distracted

in the newest edition of wired magazine the do an article on
the mass amounts of searches that go through google's search
engine. it's some guy's job to just pay attention to all of
them and tweak google's databases... he just sits there all
day and watches cross sections of what everyone all across
the globe are searching for.

if they look for something and don't get the best results he
can't change things around so that the next person has
better luck.

seeing as how google controls like 90% of web searches I'd
say he's pretty close to the moderator that Ceri suggested.

- or in the worst case - like with alot of thee kind of
message baords opinion and speculation is all and people
forget about the source the information started at - which
was probably the authority

the internet as we know it is really pretty fucking young.
not even a decade old yet.

i predict that given a little bit of time things will settle
into more predictable and usable forms... whether that's
better that what we have now or not is anybody's guess.

yeah, but what ended up happening is that joe schmoe's local
bookstore and antique shop in muskatonkee nebraska now has
to compete with every store in the global marketplace
instead of just the old couple two towns over.

maybe this is a good thing because now you can pick up the
classic atari 2600, still in original packaging, for $5 on
some random site... but, the problem is finding the site
that has it... and then giving up searching for a site
that'll sell it cheaper... because, there probably is one
somewhere .

I don't understand how, say, google can search for stuff so
fast, whereas if you use the search function in your own
single computer to search for a file, it takes much longer.
One time I tried searching for "*" in google (which means
"everything").. The screen started flashing faster and
faster in crazy patterns until I clicked cancel.

other than being an excellent source of free pornography,
stolen music and absurdly insane conspiracy theories the
internet serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever other than
luring innocent netsurfers into a tangled web of crime,
corruption, violence, deprevity, recklessness, immorality,
and satan-worship! leave the free titties & the music and
ban everything else, i say!
