some of you don't like my track plugs, and some of you do.
this is for the latter.
http://www.expando.org/mp3/low_shelf_of_oneself.mp3
I think the mix is a little low, but I'm feeling a little low too.
This is how I feel about getting rejected from this 7 month relationship.
That's pretty much what all my new music is about. Oh well.
Oh.. and none of it's synth, which is completely new for me.
All sampled in my room last night.

it's okay.
it gets boring exactly halfway through. you change the beat from that point on, but it feels like it needs a lot more. I do like the "low" feeling it has, but it does seem to need a kick up the ass, if you know what I mean.
nice melody. it does sound like a synth though - strange.

great mellow track. I wouldn't guess it was an illfates track if I didn't know. The melody reminds me a little bit of this track on crunch 2, like the 3rd track I think. One thing I've noticed with your tracks is everything is in phase with the smallest measurable unit (like one percussion his). Maybe try to make stuff out of phase with the general pattern. Like if the track is composed in a structure of 4 groups of 4 groups of 4 etc, maybe make accentuate a few bits by spacing the percussion out 5 or 6 units apart instead of 4 (just a bit, then going on track again), if that makes sense. etc. Great sounds again.

the samples are all recorded in my room.. a unenthusiastic hand clap, some tape being peeled, all the bass tones came from the five foot bong.
all the melody/harmony is a guitar with an ebow.

Some of my best stuff was done immediately after a break up...
I'll check this out tonight and post comments here.

this song reminds me of a song by Boards of Canada. I think it is Pete Standing Alone

that'll be because your great emotion surges past any inhibitive creativity barrier, and your soul is exposed, ceri.

i think i'm going to get a little more hardcore with my dedication to it, because i like most of it. scratch the dnb rhythm in the last third, because it feels pretty empty.
might add some heavy bass drones for emphasis.

yeah- seriously though. all i've been doing is feeling miserable, but I've found myself acutely aware of music. even the trashy muzak at work piques my attention. I wish I had a good software vocoder or at least an auto-tune AU, i'd try some singing.
I hate the way I feel right now, though. If I make some better music, at least it's silver lining.

Very nice melody and sounds. I can't decide whether or not I like the beat change halfway through. Sometimes I do, other times I don't. All in all though, I like it. Nice work.

I like it, nice restrained use of glitch noises, sounds a bit like the melody to the exorcist theme tune in places, Pacific State in others. A good melancholy track...
As Qrter said, it could benefit from a bit of variation half way through othe rthan just the slightly beefier percussion.
