Hi,

I'm running XP Pro and would like to give a friend on the
uni network access to a shared folder. So I created a user
account called 'admin' (the same as he uses on his laptop
(also XP) and set the security and premission entries of the
folder to full access. However when he tried to connect it
gives him a 'You don't have the right access' message. Wtf's
going on?

Thanks

XP is so garrreeeeoafieblgg.

wish i could help you. i suggest you just yell at it a lot
and drink lots of alcohol. of course it doesn't fix
anything, but it sure makes things more interesting, i
s'pose.

They do (ie. no pwd)
I think it may have something to do with the fact that I'm
running Pro whereas he's running Home. groan

no no
no need to do that

that would only be for 9x kernal (win98 winme etc)

no workgroups either

that shit doesnt matter

do this

HIS LOGON ACCOUNT ADN YOUR LOGIN ACCOUNT DO NOT MATTER

THIS IS NT

ok
------------------
delete that account you just made

go in to computer management/local users/users

right click, add/create new

make a new user (call it 'temp' or something)

set password

share your folder

now tell the guy to connect to your computer

either by WINS hostname
i.e.,
start / run
\\yourcomputernamehere

or easier to just do IP

\\192.168.0.3 or whatever your ip is

then it should pop up a username and password window

enter in the username /pw you created on your computer

BAM YER IN

simple as that

most likely the problem is you created a user on your
computer to match his , and his password differs from the
one you entered.
oh well, just do it that way it will work
