I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to this. I'm a big fan of electronic and more so the aphex twin, squarepusher, autechre (favourite) types.
So i want to have a go at making my own. I kinda sucked at music in school and had no time for it, so i thought i'd be pretty shit at making electronic music. Do you need to know like heaps of diff musical terms and notes etc etc? Cause i don't know anything. What programs should i begin with? Any good site for people like me (electronic music newbs that don't know where to start)? Did any of you artists have any pre-knowledge before starting to make electronic music?
Cheers.

You just have to make whatever you think sounds good. You don't need technical knowledge about music itself (although it can be quite convenient). You do have to know the programs you work with pretty well and have a general idea on how to create samples.

Oh and the easiest program to start with is fruity loops IMO. It's quite powerful though. Even experienced music makers here still use it. As you get to know the basics better and better you could turn uip the difficulty notch a bit and start using Reason. Hardest programs IMO are Reaktor and Cubase.

You don't need any prior knowledge just a lot of patience.
I never learned notes, but I'm getting the hang of it....after 7 years...

here's the best advice for making music:
get something that makes sounds and start hitting buttons.
that's all it comes down to really.
