I saw some tv show about cloning and some guy said, in response to ethical concerns that we shouldn't clone, that we will anyway because "there are friendlier people other than our government (other nations) that will help"... so I guess the same would be for anything... like if the USA somehow collectively agreed to stop researching brains to retain our "privacy" (at the expense of knowledge I guess?) (even though there'd probably be some curious groups that would do it anyway) there would be other countries that would still do it, or something. *shrugs

i'm not sure that those who are concerned would promote ending research. i think how the technology is used is what is important. same with genetic.

what interests me moreso than the topic of the article itself is the tendency of human beings to time and time again inflict harm upon their own kind (much to the benefit of the wealthy upper-class power-cradling minority and the detriment to the majority who slave away - often for the lack of any other options - so that this improportionate division of power and affluence can be maintained - ah! capitalism in all its glory! viva u.s.a.! viva free trade! viva w.t.o.) anyhow, the more society seems to "progress", the more elaborate the methods of oppression, and that much deeper gets the grave we're digging for ourselves.

chimpanzees do it too, read 'demonic males' by richard wrangham and dale peterson, quite a good read, it certainly helped me figure out why i'm so violent towards those damn germans.
