I love this...I was looking at my bookshelf and put in what
i thought was a recent compilation of songs i like
currently, but it was actually a much older one...It's so
nice to remember all of these songs I've forgotten about,
right now I have Port Rhombus on my headphones...anyone do
this besides me, or am I weird?

Do what? make mix tapes or put your headphones on? you're
being sooo vague at the moment, are you okay?

Finding old mixes, I meant. Sorry, i'm a little off today.

no, that's the best thing about making mixes, especially if
they are chronologically relevent, I mean if they represent
some part of your life... I put a tape in the other day and
it was all these plaintive emo indie rock bands, from my
first year away at my old college, it was quite moving and
emotional to listen and reminisce actually

Mmm the thing I love is when i dig up ones with songs that i
don't even have anymore...I have buzz caner on right now, I
trashed the incomplete version I had a long time ago.

Do you think this whole Mp3 thing is spoiling the 'mixtape'
thing? If someone gave me a tape of tracks they like I'd
play them all, now I'll listen to 5% of it as you can give
sooo much media at the moment.

Nah, as long as you burn a short cd of maybe a dozen tracks
I still think people will listen, even though you could
bombard them with mp3's online.

Cool! I've got a really short attention span. If a group
can't get me off in 45 minutes I'm bored, Groups + mixtapes,
anything more is just silly. One of my favourite albums is
'computer welt' by kraftwerk, it'ts 26 minutes long! They
said soooo much in that time!

mixmaking is a precious lost art I think. some people still
do it and I am one of them. but most people don't want to
invest that energy I guess, I mean to care enough to trade
mixes. so sad!
if anybody wants to trade mixes via mail, in spite of the
outrageous postage, let me know!

I used to give this girl I knew mixes of IDM stuff (aphex
and squarepusher, stuff like that) last year...it was fun
having people tell you they like what you like.

Have you seen the film 'hi-fidelity'? he explains the mix
tape philosophy well. An Album should be like that for me,
a personal selection of tracks that mean something. I know
people don't agree but a selection of 'DSP' odd granular
time signatures etc. for 14 hours isn't fun to me. All the
DSPthings can be used for emotions rather than technical
wizadry.

AE do a few and Aphex has done some nice ones,....but which
songs/tracks would you give a girl to get them interested in
IDM and you?

jivverdicker: boards of canada is seductive stuff, and it's
a nice transition into IDM cos it's pretty accessible for
most people
yarr, I hate the term "IDM"

yeah definately Flim!! such a good track

you'd have to put Mookid too, and then BoC would be
"beautiful place in the country"

Yeah, I still have pretty much every ''mix'' I've ever
done... under my bed, there's a Metallica ''Black
Album/Justice for All'' mix from when those were their only
two albums that I had back in grade 9, heh.
