"Filesharing networks Grokster and Morpheus
have won a lawsuit from the music and move industry. The
judge declared that both software applications only offer a
service to users and can also be used for legal activities.
The judge compared it to video recorders, also these can be
and are used for infringement of copyrights, but also serve
legal purposes."

Filesharing tools themselves are not illegal in any way.
So I guess it's a fair ruling.

I mean it's the user that makes them illegal, just like the
judge said.

This is a very good ruling. I think the whole napster ruling
was weak as shit this proves it.

that's really cool :D

that video-recorder comparison was a good call, by the
judge. A minority view it seems, but hopefully it will
spread :)

Sensible judge. Nice to see a bit of common sense applied
and for the court not to be prejudiced just because it's
computer based...

I think the main reason people have failed to see it on par
with tape recorders/vcrs is that the "device" used to
distribute the media is free software and not hardware made
by a large corporation (and hence lacks the financial clout
of someone like Panasonic or Sony in a lawsuit).

Hopefully precedence will mean that this will stop people
like that forgettable (really, I've forgotten her name!)
idiot female DJ who tried to get SS shut down.
