hehehe just got higgins and defluxion on vinyl and it's so
beautiful. i was sitting there listening to side a of the
defluxion 7" and i just sat there like
"this is what i've been looking for. this is what i needed."
like i had just realized how long i had been waiting for
someone like aaron funk to come along and give me exactly
what i wanted with out even knowing it.

i love everything.

I really dont' get how this guy has a following

I've noticed you're quite into him.. why?
do you really feel his degree of artistry and talent
measures up to that of richard james, autechre,
squarepusher?

I honestly want to know what draws you to him.. what is it
about venetian snares that deserves any
attention/money(<--?forget about it) maybe you'll convince
me .. who knows

roygbivcore

i know what you mean mate :)

theo, when i listen to snares really loud like at a party or
in a club, it turns me into a monster and i freak out, same
as when i listen to aphex in the same situation, its harsh,
nasty and fast but at the same time very thoughtful, the guy
knows his shit

some how i knew you'd be the one who posted :P

it's hard to explain really. i kind of like how it seems
completely random, but then when you start to get into it,
it all just clicks. and i definately like how incredibly
hard it is. i dunno it's hard to put into words. but i just
think you have to really want it. and then it becomes this
part of you that you can't really explain in words, but with
facial expressions (and not grimaces). there's some of his
work i don't like that much (most of songs about my cats)
but theres just these tracks that make it all worth it...

i also like how it feels like he evolves with each album,
like most artists of course, except he does it in such a
small amount of time... like doll doll doll and songs about
my cats. done in the same year, but there's such different
techniques and feelings in them.

i hope that helped :D a bit long winded

Whatever you do.....pirate or buy. Listen to the whole album
at once, concentrating on it. Do this a few times. If you
still don't like it, that's fine, but I didn't get into/see
what all the fuss was about] snares until about my third
listen to higgins. I've been hooked since.

the beats are so relentless, i remember going to see
doormouse and there was a dj who played 'cobra commander'
and we were dancing like lunatics, and then it just goes
sick with all the lazer gun noises it just sent me mad

believe me, I really gave WITBOAS a chance.. a few at that..
and there were some that really developed into some
fascinating pieces.. but ultimately I felt like I was on the
outside not wanting to really infiltrate my way inside. like
with many other artists of thier respective genres, I can
appreciate their artistry or their talent, or parts of (or
entire) their songs.. but they're just not groups or artists
or genres I want to associate myself with.. or invest all
that much time/money into.. I cast a relatively wide net
when searching for new music.. but I regard my record
collection to be an exclusive one.. I'm very picky w/ that..
it just wasn't something I wanted to own.. (don't ask).. I
just dont identify w/ it or the person behind it.. (I regard
arron funk as a black/death metalhead who one day stumbled
upon a sequencer, and a genre with few icons of great
influence and importence)... many albums or works of any
kind for that matter, initially keep the public at arms
length.. this just wasnt one I wanted to really penetrate
(unlike Confield, or say, the vastly underrated Windowlicker
equation song for example)

I also understand that this only represents one side (an
unusually dark one , along with 'find candace', as I
understand it) of his repritoire which can at times be quite
upbeat and has a charm to it.. I'm interested in hearing
"making orange things," as I imagine that's the path he'd be
on if he hadn't stumbled upon the aforementioned sequencer
and the subgenre attached ;) (which band did he record that
with) and , of course, his sex album w/ hecate.. that should
definately prove to be an interesting listen

if you like it you like it, if you dont, you dont, doesnt
matter, dont force yourself to like something

WITBOAS is definitely not a starter album. I haven't heard
all of it and so far, I really don't like it that much
myself. Listen to Doll Doll Doll for a real taste, then try
moving on to other albums.

i still haven't been able to get into witboas, mind you it
took me a while to admire songs about my cats for what it
is.

oh it isnt'? hmm.. I thought I read that somewhere.

can u explain breakcore?

offline Spacecadet on 2003-04-26 10:32 [#00670136]
Points: 1790 Status: Lurker

it's like drill 'n' bass but the bass drums are more like
hardcore, and it's just more harsh sound to it

i guess you could say 54 cymru beats is breakcore, or drill
'n' bass or whatever, it's just a name, call it what u like

I certainly can't explain it, but another way of
putting it is "Industrial Drum 'n Bass," if that helps.

breakcore.. hmm
ok, well as we know, a breaks are little parts in the song
where the drums change for a few beats, usually before
something new happens in the song

break core is basically made up of breaks, changing
constantly

I think breakcore always involves a sample, right?
