madlib's use of samples is supreme.

lyrically and musically "the unseen" is really borring to
me. every track is way too similar and its just
predictable. I dont care for this album much at all, its
well done and mixed and everything but I dont fancy it.
plus he says "nigger" waaaaay too much, to the point where
its just like come on say something else. Im not trying to
bash quasimoto or anything, theres some good tracks on it
but I felt it was a little weak--just my 2 cents.

well i'll admit that it took a few listenings before it
really sunk it's claws into me. but of course everyone's
tastes are different. My fiance really hated it when i
first subjected her to it. it took her a few weeks before
she came around. she really didn't like his "elmer fudd"
voice. but i overheard her recommending it to a friend over
the phone the other day so. . . worth another listen?

i'll listen to it every once in a while but it seems a bit
weak. I find that line about stabbing the guy with the
pitchfork amusing heh as well as the picture in the insert.
the jazz song that tributes the jazz legends is really cool
too.

how is it that when i bring up a madlib project
all i get is ignorant responses and then when people talk about quasimoto or
YNQ it's like everyone's favorite joint?

listened to it today for the first time in a while. i
wasn't as into it as i remembered. i dig it musically, love
it in certain moments, but i've realized i don't like a lot
of his lyrical content.

loop digga great though.

oh god the unseen is amazing.. ive listened to is hudreds of
times and every time i hear something new and brilliant.

the unseen - keep it clean like a diamond ring - or dirty
like a one night fling - but i bet you can't catch my
swing

ack - the diamond ring symbolizing eternal commitment, the
polar opposite of a one night fling.. i could easily write
a few pages about each track on this album.. how each song
has multiple layers/double, triple and quadruple meanings
that let the listener enjoy it on any level or any
mindstate..

whew!

i have The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas so far -
recommended by Combo. : )

i like it, and i'm thinking of getting The Unseen
maybe, but... one thing bothers me about The Further
Adventures
: all the best parts/all the memorable parts
seem to be just samples.

interesting facts:

- i think the unreleased bootleg of "further adventures of
lord quas" is actually better then the official release

- madlib recorded "the unseen" using just a boss sp-303
sampler, a tascam portastudio (cassettes vintage!) and lots
of vinyls recorded on an old record player. the cool thing
is that he did it in a hotel room using a sony stereo for
monitoring...

- madlib said that most of the money at producing "the
unseen" went for weed...

"creativity..." :D

(great avatar again !)

Hell yeah the samples are amazing, but some of them are from
ultra-rare records and thanks to madlib who has got a HUGE
collection of records, we can hear them ! And don't forget
that a lot of the samples might come from tracks that are
not really interesting except for that sample. As Madlib
says in one of his song, he can spend 16 bucks on a record
for a simple drum kick !

By the way, his way of mixing is incredible (for example the
construction of "Players of the game" is simply amazing imo)
and I also love his way of rappin' (as well as the funny way
Quasi rhymes with his weird high pitched voice). Plus he
always as good guests on his records !

I can't wait for the next release !!!! For me, this last
Lord Quas album was in my top three last year !
