thought my x-pensive m-audio sound card was toasted cause I was getting intermittent clicking in the audio... I hadn't changed any settings!
Managed to fix the problem by setting it to full hardware acceleration. *shrug*
Posted just in case people have had or are having similar problems

Fuck this was a tough one to trace... it started doing it again so I disabled the extra raid ATA controller (suggestion on the M-AUDIO site), opened the case and made sure all wires were tied back well away, and disconnected everything but the output.
You know what it turns out it was? It was the midi cables connected to my Roland keyboard, and it only makes the clicking when the keyboard is turned off. Buh?! Never did that before.
Fuck I hate wasting time tracking this shit down.
