Like most places, opinion here seems divided on the morality of sharing and copying music.
I guess this question is more directed as those who think filesharing and whatever is wrong. Does your opinion change when it's music that can't actually be bought, no matter how much you want to, such as with limited and deleted releases?

filesharing is good.. without it i'd still be buying mainstream shit only.. it made me discover more music, addicting me to it -> buying more stuff

I don't think file sharing is wrong....and I think that would be the legal stand point.....its whether or not the content is copyright isn't it? That being said, I use Kazaa....as do most people probably

I can understand people being against filesharing, but with limited items, artists are asking for it.
Not literally of course, but you know...

oh exactly. my mate and i tripped over auetchre by accident back in the napster days and its changed our taste, and our own music permanently :)
and ive gone on to buy a number of autechre releases. its all good.
as for deleted material.. ive said elsewhere.. my mate and i have tapes of our own material that we dont want people to here, cause we think its shithouse :)
but you know, im in the queue to find boards old material cause im such a crazed fan.. i think its high praise rather than any sort of insult.

You read a review or hear someone talk about or you're just curious. Then you download it. If good, you buy the music, if you don't like it, you delete it (or save it for a second chance or so).

i like file-sharring as a rrule. most youngerr people don't have 14 pound a week to spend on CD's, lowerr the prrice of CDs dramatically and I may develop a prroblem with filesharring.

it's just another sad indictment of today's society that file-sharing is becoming more and more prevelant. People seem to get a buzz out of getting something for nothing but they don't seem to realise the effect it is having on the music industry. I don't steal from shops and I don't steal from musicians. As a musician, I'm fucking pissed off that my music is being downloaded for nothing. I have worked fucking hard for years making music and all I want is the monetary recognition i deserve. You are all thieves!

first off, i pay for my music in general.
let's say that i am a musician. i think that i would be pretty happy that people were listening to me whether or not they bought my record. just the fact that people cared to hear what i have worked hard on would please me.
i think a lot of artists are money hungry. they whine whine whine and feel sorry for themselves when they sell fewer records than britney spears, and then blame mp3s. it just seems like a joke to me. they should consider themselves lucky that they are able to do what they love in the first place, whether or not they have to keep a day job.
i am annoyed when i buy a shitty cd. i am annoyed when i have to buy a greatest hits comp for one new song. mp3s solve both problems.
