Is Dance Music Selling Out?

The reason I'm writing this is because I went and saw Plaid
perform on the latest warp tour. I was hoping to hear new
stuff (which I'm sure I did) along with some older songs. To
my disappointment though, they had tailored their whole show
for the dancing crowd. I mean, they didn't play any of their
best songs (in my opinion), only dancy stuff. I could really
give a shit to go hear dance music, I can't possibly think
of anything more mind numbing and boring. So my question
is... as far as live shows go, do you think electronic
groups have to resort to dance music or is there some avenue
where they could still play the music that shows up on their
album? I hope someday electronic music will have the balls
to step out and do something really creative for a live show
because it is by far the most limitless music out there.

I agree. I did love the way bands "danced-up" their tracks
for live shows before...but now I'm bored of seeing act
after act play music perfectly tailored for jumping
up-and-down to...I want a concept show, an interesting idea.
Even Tangerine Dream's concert was dancey (they used to do
pitch-black hour-long improvisations...not any more)

erm...if I go to see someone live the last thing I would
want to do is just sit down or stand and appreciate the
music. I can do that at home. When i go out I want to
dance with some foxy female who I will later make love too
while listening to the none dancy stuff. It all works out
nice in the end.

No, but w3rd on the street is yo mumma is... jj ;)

I've never had the privelege to see a live idm performance
but if Plaid or someone played dance music I'd be right
pissed off, I like to just sit and take in this kind of
music...it's great to just lie back in a chair and focus all
your thoughts on it.

my mate and i will play our favourite songs in a live
situation, simple as that :) we dont go out of our way to
please, but dont play a whole set of unfriendly material,
either

were not a noise band or anything, but well mess around live
and fuck things up, its all part of what we like doing :)

you can chek the last live recording here
GATE
if youre curious :)

it it is not a sit down concert you MUST pump it up and
dance it a bit or it will be dead boring and pointless
you will not appreciate or hear the abstract songs if you
are just standing there ..you need a drink and a seat
