Drum kit.

10 years.

I own one, it is black.

I don't know what rating I would give myself. I'm not really
happy with my playing ability as is. Must keep practicing.

yeah...I play buttocks too...

I have this book, but I have only reached page 13: "the
double ram-shackle solo-ride". Can't really get past that.

Did you have trouble doing the "special elefant-move"?

:P

I remember when I was younger my friend played the Tuba. And
he'd tell me to put my hand under the spit trap (I didn't
know what it was) and he'd release it.

i play french horn. i played trumpet for about 5 years
(from 10 to 15), got braces and couldn't do it anymore.
never really liked the instrument, but it was fun to play
something nevertheless. well, they came off, and eventually
i decided to give horn a shot. more my style i think. i
have only been playing for about a year now, but i have fun
with it. i rent a holton 179 from my school, and i doubt
that i will be able to afford to buy one after graduation
because of school expenses, etc. but i am hopeful that
there will be a horn for me in the future!

Clarinet: well I studied for two years, learned to play the
Star Wars theme and the Cantina Band music.
Rating: 6/10, didn't really know what I was doing, wasn't
too pleased that everyone who played it seemed to be a
balding white guy...

Bunch of crapped up old guitars: ye gods, that long?!
rating: I forget, but I sometimes wake up in a cold sweat
with Metallica riffs thundering through my skull

Bass: played it in a band for a while
Rating: not bad at all, impressed a couple of long term bass
players with my weird ass fretless stylings

Drums: played them whenever the drummer wasn't around,
learned how to cop a cool 5/4 groove
rating: could probably play in a punk or psychobilly band

Roland RS5 keyboard: since last summer
Rating: getting there baby

Guitar, for about 8 or 9 years, I own a gibson les paul, and
a ibanez acoustic electric...Im not a very good guitarist in
my opinion

Paino-about 3 years now, some old upright, player piano.
again I think my playing skills are under par

Bass-for about 7 years, dont actually own one, but my friend
taught me some bass playing techniques (anyone who plays the
guitar can fake playing the bass I think)

in an ensemble its totally different tho... you have to know
how the bass interacts with the drums.

in jazz music a gutarist playing bass would stick out a
mile...

*sounds like an elitist* didnt mean to sound like that, but
people dont take bassists seriously. people think "oh that's
easy!"...

yeah... i have maximum respect for jazz musicians... i

2 are complete differant mind sets

no no no, by no means was I trying to down play the talent
required for playing bass, all I was saying is that if you
have a working knowledge of the last 4 strings on a guitar,
you can fake playing the bass since they are the same. (I
have deep respect for bassists, especially jazz bassists)

wow yeah. i wish i could play the cello and trumpet...

DiaZoHeXagoN: i didnt mean to accuse u of that, just that
some people do do it. sorry :)

i was on a music course thingy, and this guitarist tried to
play bass on someone's track. he tried to take over. it was
awful, no sense of ensemble at all :S

yeah anytime someone tries to take over it usually leads to
disaster...everyone must play their part. I hate when
people showboat on purpose to make others feel inferior...
