Am I obsessed?

Hey everyone,

Lately I've been here a lot, as I'm feeling quite alone in
regards to my CDs and my overall attitude towards my music.

When I first started listening to music, I had about four
CDs which I accumulated over about 2 years. When I got into
IDM more, you can imagine how excited I would get whenever I
got a new album.

For instance, when I first got into the RDJ Album, I would
never even drem of owning such a CD as an Analogue
Bubblebath. But then, I got new CDs more and more
frequently, and I didn't appreciate them as much. I became
so obsessive that I couldn't leave the city without a
new CD everytime I went in.

So, now I have almost every Aphex CD, and quite a big CD
collection, but I've listened to them so often that I'm sort
of not grateful for owning them.

Music is getting further and further away from me, and I'm
really worried about it. I'm thinking about trying to live
without them for a while, because "absence makes the heart
grow fonder", but i find that I need to be listening to
CDs all the time
.

I really am getting depressed, and thinking that I'm way too
over-obsessive.

Sorry for dribbling on, but what do you guys think?

i'm a bit like you... (though i'm more obsessed with my
dreams than with music!)

so i can't tell =/
maybe it is just a period, and it will pass...

Sounds like youre obsessed with the idea of owning a cd
rather than listening to the music itself. I dont have any
advice sorry.

I had kind of the same problem.
Stay away from the city , is my advice!
or, if you go, just take the cash for what you need, and
nothing more.
credit cards are evil!

*sighs with content*

Thank you, thank you everyone.

I had a feeling it might be a normal thing for music
addicts.

I'd say :
Deep forest, boheme, and put Bulgarian melody on repeat. ;)
That piano part is SOOO beautiful!

toejam, yoiur in a similar situation to me. naturally you
want to buy cds that people recommend, and this is a big
board, there is always someone here who likes a particular
cd, so theres pressure to keep up and buy as many cds as you
can, whether you love the music or not, and thats not bad so
long as you can afford it...a lot of the time i buy a cd coz
people tell me to and im unimpresed, but when im without
money for a while i go back to the old cds and relisten,
finding good stuff i ignorred before. you beleiving there is
something better out there is stopping yoiu from enjoying
what you already have. also, owning a rare cd, the novelty
of it being rare always wears off, it becomed just another
cd, something is only rare untill you have it, then it
becomes of equal standing to the others you own....

as to listening to music all the time, when your out, theres
no problem umless you really miss music when its Not there,
thats obsession.

I say listen to the radio, then when I good song finally
comes on you enjoy it a lot more. I don't know why I suppose
subconsiuosly you always know what to expect from an album,
but the radios "unknown" factor makes you appriciate music a
lot more

yeah i love shows shown on tv more than when they are on
video, you have to get the most enjoyment out as you can
because it wont be on again...
