It's a play based on the gay kid Mathew Sheppard who was
brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming some years back. My
brother was going to college there at Wyo Tech when it
happened, horrible display of human nature.

Anyways, it came here to Iowa City last weekend, along with
a group from some southern church who follow it around
protesting about how gays will burn in hell and what not.
Having one of the highest homosexual per capita rate in the
country, there was naturally a huge uprising and almost
riots, I won't go into it too, but it was quite a spectical
indeed. They even went around to churches the next day
talking even more shit for our town accepting gays so much.

My point of this thread is, witnessing this made me wonder
how some people harbor such intense and blind hatred for
others just due to such personal prefrences. Why does this
group hate homosexuals so much that they follow this play
all around the country spredding hate? It's a dark part of
human nature that not everyone displays, so what makes it so
promenent in some people? It it more genetic, or more of a
product of culture? Your thoughts please.

from the maxx:
It's important for a person to understand that he or she has
the potential to be just as rotten as everybody else.

i'm in a production of the laramie project as matt's dad,
dennis shepard, and it's been intense. before, i wanted
equal rights for everyone blahblahblah, but now i see that
gays actually do have it kind of shitty in the us. glad i'm
not one! not that there's anything wrong with it...
