is $145 a good price for a Technics SL-BD20D? No, I dont'
need direct drive 1200 or anything since I don't plan to DJ,
I just want to be able to play vinyl. Would this be the
right choice?

Not too sure what the English conversion is about £100 I
think, That would be a reasonalbe bit of kit for playing
records, but you probably don't need to spend that much as
long as you've got a good stylus and cart your music quality
will be fine

cart?

Stylus is the needle bit coming out of the cart, and the
cart converts it into music, so the better they are the
better the music. Think of them as the laser in a CD player

well, i know this is probably best for my uses, and i like
the way it looks with such a small profile. does anyone know
if $145 is a good price for a Technics SL-BD20D though?

You can get some nice "all in one" cartridge&styli&headshell
cart now... they plug direct into the tone arm. I'm a fan of
the Ortofon Concorde Series, but a couple of other companies
make ones like this.
