I am going to a university library for the first time
tonight and assume there will be thousands of books.

Is there a technique (appart from using my eyes) that will
allow me to find quickly the books I need?

Can anyone tell me the phonenumber for the owl nurse? An owl
has fell out of a tree in my back garden and its looks like
it has broken its neck, as it's head is the wrong way round,
ie, back to front.

Ask the owl.
it's a wise bird.

you've got to save it! think of the poor owl babies wh'll be
crying for their mummy.

i went to a library once. I think, if i remember correctly
the books are arranged alphabetically by author. A coming
before B and C coming before D etc. stick at it and I'm sure
you'll find the book you want. Good luck!

Apart from using your eyes you can magically point your
finger, it helped with my dissertation no end

Well they should have a computer that'll tell you what they
have. Search by keywords and that and it'll tell all teh
info you need such as aisle and shit.

And if you don't want to use your eyes, some libraries have
a braille section, I think.

they will hace a computerised catalogue system. go in type
in the author or title or whatever and it'll tell you a
number which should be on its spine, books are arranged
numerically according to their subject. thats how it was at
mine anyway.

owls, not sure phone the rspca.

i beg to differ...

categorically...books are put in accordance tho thier type
of reference...universityy libraries in particualr are like
this...

journal areticles have their own section (room) to their
reference book counterparts... as do the dictionaries
etc...

novels may appear along with the subject matter in the
section, eg: science novels for a certain subject area in
biology for instance...

you can also access free online up-to-date journal articles
on line too!!! www.sciencedirect.com

(i am presently residing in a university library right now!)

FIRST, ask the librarian to find you some books on the
subject of library catalogue numbering and classification
system

Isn't that called the "Dewey Decimal System"?

Yes, most uni libraries have PCs that will give you the
reference for aisle etc. they also tend to have people
who'll help you if it's first time... just look for an
undersexed looking female librarian and they'll help you
out.
