DRAFT 7.30 IS

OK, this may sound dramatic and ridiculous to some of you,
because it would sound kinda fishy to me, if i weren't
me...

the "draft... confield" thread got me really excited to
listen to Draft 7.30 again. the first full listen was like,
"ae has let loose!" while the second was more, "oh, i was
too excited, now that i listen i'm not so sure, but
something about it feels kinda nice." now, i just listened
to it for the third time and it was among the most enjoyable
autechre listening experiences thus far. and by this i mean
every single track is awesome. all this crap about
comparing it to confield is just that, crap. this is one
awesome album, equivilent in my heart to confield. i'm now
certain that, like many autechre albums, more people will
begin to enjoy it, people will say that they once hated it
and it was boring, but suddenly they found it to be the most
refreshing music ae has produced yet! i swear it!

I'm still getting used to it. It sounded really good at
about the 6-8 tracks. It's perfect to listen to while you
play "air wolf" for NES since air wolf music sucks and sound
isn't very necessary for gameplay.

Sometimes I think people jump to conclusions with their
opinions on new albums with a scope and depth like Draft or
Confield.
Some guy from Rolling Stone says it sucks - what does he
know? Does he or she have the foresight, the talent, or
vision to construct something so far out of planet left with
custom made tools?

I don't think Autechre suck - I'm still working on Confield.
I'm just not ready. Autechre is among the most advanced
material I have ever encountered.

i can understand why people don't want to have to wait to
"get" and album, but i think ae are pretty innocent. they
simply put out music that follows patterns that are a bit
far from anything else that has been considered music. some
argue this and list all these old experimentalists, but none
of them sound like autechre, none of them were doing what
autechre are doing. it's just some seriously fresh music.

DRAFT 7.30 IS:
over-discussed..

just kidding, i just figured i might as well
(jokingly) give you shit for making a new draft thread
before someone else does.

i do agree with you about the album though.

i know, i was hesitant to make another thread, just seems
ridiculous, but i hadn't seen any "draft 7.30 is fucking
incredible" threads, so i figured i'd do it.

i loved confield, and people on here were saying it sounds
just like confield so that's what i was expecting. come to
find out it's more akin to Lp5 in my opinion. i've only
listened to once, though, i'm sure i'll get over my
disappointment and start hearing what's really there soon.
but the newer autechre takes longer to sink in than any
other music i've heard.

I give no credibility to these mainstream magazines
reviewing underground type albums anymore. How can a
non-fan evaluate something that is so closely aimed at a
specific crowd? I mean this in the strictest non-elitist
way .. but seriously... If someone doesn't 'get' and Ae
album after a couple of listens then they shouldn't be
listening to it at all. That is, unless they are
intestested in the scene and are getting used to it. If a
died in the wool Ae head doesn't like it or get it after a
couple, then it might just be a bad album. If you know Ae,
then you shoiuldn't have to work to hard to 'get' anything
they produce. But these folks who review Ae like they are
reviewing any other techno act are under, or rather
mis-qualified to be reviewing it in the first place. Leave
it to those who know what they're talking about! I wouldn't
go and try to review a new avant-math rock album becuase I
would be judging it by incomplete, naive standards based on
my very limited knowledge of the scene.

OMG uviol. You are a genius. You have said what I've been
trying to say for years, but to no avail.
Thank you for your sharing your thoughts. Props.
I feel the same way. You wouldn't catch me reviewing
anything but electronica these days. I'm not qualified for
anything else....maybe a little bit of Brit-rock/pop...

i agree, there are far too many draft 7.30 threads here...
what about only one, big draft 7.30 thread instead of
an armada of little all similar (either "it's a masterpiece"
or "it's deceiving") ones?
