you can find the original there ("Run The Place Red feat.
Daddy Freddy"). it's ok.
and get "Executor feat. Roger Robinson" while you're at it.

wait.. he's doing a remix of a ragga-techno artist.. so
that'll be in a ragga vein, that doesn't mean that his new
EP will be like that though.

I do love that kind of rhythm though.. so it'll be
interesting to hear it applied to new kinds of music
(marilyn manson's new stuff has a lot of hiphop elements in
it..) I like the neptunes/ragga hiphop type of rhythm that
has been constantly employed in mainstream hiphop since liek
98

anyway.. gideon, is there any way to get the full,
registered version of a certain tracker program from you via
email?? let me know

titsworth.. thanks for the hefty recommendations.. the IA
comp is verrry good (save for the vsnaresy bogdan raczynski
track.. which I is sortof growning on me.. though I tend to
skip it) and I was surprised to find the savath + savalas
"album" I bought was only an EP. is the full-length he
preceeded that with any good?

yawn - the bug album on rephlex was releasede to day I got
it from warpmart and it's one of the best and most
interesting things rephlex or any electronic label have ever
put out -really bloddy good - there are soundclips at
www.rephlex.com and reviews/information etc

obviously you'll find out more directly there rather than
listening to people here who are just guessing

it's also good but not as advanced... that shouldn't stop
you from enjoying it though. i hope you're taking advantage
of the cheap prices over at heftyrecords.com. i feel bad for
people who look up telefon tel aviv on amazon or barnes &
noble and see $35 for a japanese import with an unnamed
bonus track and think that you can't buy the cd in america.
(incidentally, there is no bonus track, it's the same cd as
what you can buy on the hefty site except $25 more
expensive.)

the bug is not aphex, ragga is not reggae... some of you are
getting confused. my advice: don't think about it, or look
for the previous discussions on smojphace and ragga &
dancehall music.

try going to the rephlex website - reading some information
and listening to sound clips and reviews -
i've not heard an authoritative word coming from here about
the subject - just the blind leading the blind

ragga is a raggae/hiphop derivative

teflon tel aviv is real cool .. any recommendations there?
.. I also have something for you that maybe I could upload
to that ftp u showed me

the ftp is apparently full right now (no disk space when i
try to upload)... email it to me?

TTA.. well they only have one full length and one ep, you
can't go wrong getting both for $17.

it's not at all - it's a indeginous jamacain music that
started off as reggae based with electronic rhythms - it's
now something quite different but it sounds nothing like hip
hop - mainly cos the roots and culture element of reggae has
larglety dissasociated itself with it or added it's own
naibingi jah worshiping twist on it - as the lyrics are
often slack - ie about sex or about gun talk .

ragga is variously used as a synonym for dancehall reggae
and also dancehall style jungle (which I saw AFX play a
WICKED set of at ATP last weekend). Definitely reccomend
the Bug album as well, nasty rugged stuff. And a bit of
flamebait: if you dig electronic music and don't recognize
that Jamaica is one of it's birthplaces then you are
sleeeeping. Really sick of all these electronica kids who
don't recognize that virtually ALL this electronic music is
black music at it's roots: techno, drum and bass, electro,
hiphop, ragga and even rock and roll are all originated by
black people. Recognize!

...country, bluegrass, blues, jazz, ska...
white people imitate and steal black culture

it's true.. look what it took for mainstream, middle and
corporate america to accept hiphop

all electronica definately derived from 80's hiphop/electro
.. like mantronix and shit like taht

wreckognize

mantronik is white ain't he.. anyway, lectronic dub and
dancehall was coming out of jamaica as early as the 70s,
it's a lot more similar to modern techno than kraftwerk,
stockhausen, and anyone else whose name is brought up when
we talk about the origins of electronic muse sick

what's funny about this raping and pillaging of black music
is that as soon as whitey catches on, blacks move on and
start another genre (eg: move away from jazz, start rock,
leave rock, start hip-hop, leave hip-hop, start krakneljamz)
only for the cycle to keep continuing... thank god black
musicians are such good sports about less talented white
imitators profiting off THEIR artform.

sorry but i've never read so much junk in my life - name one
modern dance track that is more like aquarius in dub than
numbers or something .?
mantronix is peuto rican - also dancehall is an 80's
phenomenon - not 70's .
i don't think blacks move on to other things when whitey
catches on at all - that's just plain silly - so hip hop
sells to 70% whiteys and it's got more boring than ever
before - drum and bass is a mixed race thing and it ain't
changed - jazz? predomenantly white audience - turned pretty
conservative - roots reggae see again..

i wasn't saying he's white, i was asking.. i know he's not
black, which is my point.

jamaicans started using electronics heavily in the late 70s
but you didn't get dub or dancehall as proper genres (the
way you're seeing this) until the early 80s like you said

blacks definitely moved on from country and rock, i was
being facetious about hip-hop but who knows? there are
exceptions of course (most notably reggae; i can't name a
single white reggae artist) but i think there's something to
my theory that after whitey catches on blacks move onto
something else. generally speaking.
