length of albums

does knowing the length of an album influence your choices
in purchasing music?

as in, if you know an album is only 35 minutes, say, would
you be more hesitant to buy it, just because you are getting
less music for your money?

on a side note, is it the same when burning an album?

personally, if it's good enough, no matter how long is it,
i'll buy it. but when i'm burning, i don't go for it if it's
under 50 or 60 minutes, usually.

"be more hesitant to buy it, as opposed to a 60 or 70
minute one"

i'd much prefer to have an album that has four tracks that
are all solid than one that has 12 tracks but only four
solid ones......

nod, the album length doesn't USUALLY bother me... but in
the case of the RDJ album, the album length and song length
did kinda...

I think it's more song length then album length that's
important... I like songs that have enough length to develop
into something interesting... The RDJ Album kind of annoyed
me when I first got it... bit Come to Daddy never did... and
they're both about the same length overall, however the
tracks on rdj album are much shorter usually...

Size doesn't matter, it's the potency of what's there.

but then look at drukqs and how much useless junk is piled
into that.

now clarence park... (chris clark) ... that's what i call
getting a lot of content in a small package...

it seems weird to me that someone would be hesitant to burn
an album that was short, but not buy an album that was
short... after all, a cdr costs like a dollar, n'est-ce pas?
then again, if i can, i will stuff two albums on to a cdr...
i think i have Manual's Ascend on the same CDR album as
Chris Clark's Clarence Park (speaking of that fellow)... as
for RDJ album... i don't think it could have been any longer
than it was...

quality, not quantity... a good 20 minute ep is far better
than a so-so 60 minute lp

I wish I could be that selective but good music is hard to
find these days, so no, the lenght of the album is not one
of my top prioritys to check when choosing what to buy.

I find album length completely irrelevant when purchasing.

when i burn something i dont give a shit if its an 20 min.
EP or a 70 min full lenght

those cdr's only cost 50 ¤cent so...

two of my fav albums are
its a shame about ray by the lemonheads [30 mins long]
and lateralus by tool [83 minutes long]

if it doesnt drag, and it sounds wicked, then who cares?

I think that an album is really short, you just have to
release it as an ep or so. It is more fare not to ask too
much money for a short one.
The other way around, like Ae's ep7 is something else of
course ;-).

But on the other hand I can agree that I prefer short but
all good over long with some lesser tracks.

The length of 'my' albums i make worry me.

A 20 track album just clocks in at 47 minutes

it does matter... but not that much, really. : )

i care more for the artwork for example (it's important!)
than for the length.

i prefer that albums i buy are more than 60 mts
i love it when the album is like 74.75mts
i feel that i am being cheated if the album is 55 mts

but at the same time lots of the greatest albums are like
45mts

Rarely does a 70 minute album ever come along that doesn't
bore the shit out of me at some point. 45-50 minutes is
ideal.

As soon as I see 60-75 on the playtime, I know there's going
to be LOTS of boring filler.

i prefer shorter, with better material... example, Kid A...
short and sweet man... Burning doesnt bother me either, ill
burn Eps that only have 2 tracks on them... dont care at all
really... thats how it was meant to be, then thats how it
will be :)

i gotta get ya to hear one of mine sometime...
rarely do i use "fillers", i'll cram a CD with 70-80 minutes
for the fact that i just compose that amount...
i could do somethin around 30 minutes if that's all i had
that i thought was half decent

it is though
my point is this: you put on CD what you have to put on it
in the first place, whether its 2 tracks or 37 tracks, 10
minutes or 80 minutes
it's the material that determines the CD length

i think albums under 40 minutes should have a $13 suggested
price vs. the standard $18 (note: these are suggested
prices, not necessarily what you'll actually be charged).
some of my favorite albums are short, but in general i feel
a little exploited when i pay over $13 for a cd under 40
minutes.
