Autechre Draft 7.30
1/5
This really does say it all. Apparently, it's alleged that certain "fans" of techno warblers Autechre believe the band's name to be a half-assed acronym for Audio Technical Research. Thats what it says here. This being the case (which it isn't), one listen to the godawful blipping and burping that issues forth when this album is played burns the question: what, exactly, is being researched here? As the sound of flatulent elephants farts its way into earshot, one assumes that whatever is being researched, no cure for cancer resides therein. The Fact is, Autechre arrived at their name the same way 7000 monkeys apparently arrive at Shakespeare - by bashing randomly on a keyboard. Their, erm, 'music' seems to harness this very same process. Even the track titles bare a worrying randomness about them: '6IE CR', 'Tapr', 'VL AL 5' - each one like a sodden sock being dragged "significantly" across a carpet by electric ants, while TV repairmen suffer heart attacks from the surrealism of it all. A research exercise into a listener's patience, hypothetically it would take seven monkeys a mere seven minutes to come up with the cacophonous belching this album presents. Words really do fail; so, in summary, I should like to bash at the keyboard and see what happens... &^_WANKBUBBLES&^!! Well, whaddya know!

The fucking server appends a .x to the end of the filename for some reason... take that off so it's just monkey00.zip and you should be able to open it. It's great fun with one or two friends and some substances to abuse.

If you can find it somewhere, Babble by Korenthal Associates is also very cool. You load up four different text files and it randomizes and intermingles them in real time, and there's an interface so you can go hmmm, a little less Charles Manson, more George Bush, a touch more William S Burroughs...."
All these word randomizer programs are old Dos things! It's like when people got Windows they lost interest in cool wordplay!

THANK YOU!! Or... that goes to the writer of the review. ;) I almost started to believe I was the only one being disappointed at this album (together with a lot of other "crap" from Ae lately; Confield, Gantz Graf, etc...)
Damn, it´s sad to se artists once so good just totally fall down like this.

as for where the review came from, it came from a shitty free music magazine called The Fly... i think its primarily for indie music.
