I don't know, I bought Confield last night, and I think it's great... the tracks are very emotional in my opinion... Vi Scose Poise, Cfern, Pen Expers, Uviol, are just gorgeous... well, I guess pen expers overall is pretty noisey, but the melody is beautiful...
hehe, I played that on the way home from work in the car... my sister picked me up... she said it was giving her a headache, and was stressing her out... she then went on to say that the music seemed like some problem that needed fixing... heh, I found that to be kinda cool...

At first I thought Draft 4.20 was a bunch of garbled drum sounds until I heard 6IE.CR, this restored my faith in AE and made me re-listen to Draft a couple more times. Its a really great, original album, but I can also agree with everyone else who says its not an "everyday" listening album.
The farting noises in Reniform Puls are good for a chuckle.

I'm lucky my girlfriend is used to it by now ;-).

I just got my copy of Draft yesterday and have to say I like it, mabey even more than confield. Of course there are a few duds in there, but they're more than made up for by sweet tracks like 6IE.CR, Roundabout, V-Proc, and Reinform Puls. It's definetly not for everyone, and I can respect why some would dismiss it as noise, it takes some courage to get beyond that and hear it's true flava.

the family and i had a 1 and a half hour drive hiome from grandma yesterday, and i showed them draft over the car stereo.
so we listened to the whole album, and my dad, who's a musician and kinda knows his stuff, told me there was too little sound overall, and too much repetition.
so i thought to myself, he does have a point. i mean, how much do you have to give of yourself to like draft?
do you have to have a mindset that tells you to like it, maybe you're pretending and you don't know it?
but then i listened to v-proc again and discarded that thought.
and paco, the music you're describing is called 'catchy', it's what all 'normal' musicians strive to achieve them most of, and what i hear from an interview with autechre, they are trying to not achieve.

It really is just a matter of taste...Not _that_ many people could be faking it, if you really think that...Personally, I can't stand it, but I still have a large amount of their albums in mp3 format...I keep trying to like it, since so many here do, but I can't...

I won't be buying Draft eithor. I don't like any of Autechre's new music. Incunabula & Tri-Repetea is where it ends for me. In my opinion confield is crap, but if someone wants to listen to then what right do I have to complain? All a matter of opinion.

OH WOW i really opened this thread with a valid reply. fnord modular? well i have one word for you: norwegian neo-folk. oh but that is several words.
re: ae, i really like older ae. no need to pretend. but with this newer stuff i don't know. i have had trouble with my confield (i bought it just a long long time ago and at first i didn't even have the 'idm'ear to recocnize any sorts of pattern there, it just sounded like rattle). that makes me not want to buy draft (also the hype here has made me sick of it)
i have given up on forcing meself to like their or others new albums. i listen happily to my old releases and dream that it would be 1995 right now.

why do people expect their fave artists to just churn out the same shit time and time again.if you don't like the new stuff don't fucking listen to it,sell the stuff you don't like and start listening to the bollocks that clutters the charts instead.

There is something neat about the older stuff. It is more straight forward techno in the traditional sense and the abstractness lies in more subtle nuances. The new stuff is much more overtly surreal and imo really breaks a lot of ground. They make some extreme choices on songs like Gantz Graff that I myself might not make but it is good that they do and it is listenable. (There are a vast number of noise artists out there that are anything but listenable and any concept they were trying to accomplish ends up coming off as self-indulgent masochism). Some people prefer more traditional structure while others want to hear the envelope pushed a little. What I really enjoy and what I would generally call a great album is one that pulls off a good transitional mix of the abstract collage stuff and then occasionally moves into solid grooves while maintaining an overall sense of consistant composition. I think albums like Draft do that really well.
