not that i disagree with him or anything, atleast not completely, but thom sounds a bit pissy. hes a bit extreme, maybe too dramatic as well. but i still agree that this war is self seeking, just not for the reasons he provides.

good stuff... not that I feel that strongly or anything, but I like to see other people expressing their opinions... and it is true that the government wasn't voted in by a majority... I can never get past that... it's such a fucked up system that allowed them to get in...

but then maybe that's all it was meant to be?

why don't you feel strongly about the war? why wouldn't anyone? it's a pretty serious thing...
personally i think we should get out of there for a number of reasons. we never belonged there in the first place and it's not too late to leave now.

they've been using that now as though its the only thing that matters in the war. comparing it to the fall of communism. there are so many problems with this, and the war isn't technically over.

well, I really meant as strongly as Thom Yorke seemed to be... I have my opinions about way, but in this case I really don't have a solution to the problem other then this... Saddam had to go, and I really don't know any other ways... it's just me... so I'm kind of back and forth with this war... not sure of where I stand totally... on the once hand I believe war is wrong, but on the other hand there is this crazy person leading a country with weapons of mass destruction...

i know i know .. and its a very dangerous way to justify a war. also ... the war was meant to be about chemical weapons not regime change (well according to 1443 or whatever) - which might be a clever move combining the two such that the un can not have a slice of the iraqi pie?
not over yet though ... but for some reason i think this sense of suspense - of what is going to happen works in bush's favour? maybe something will happen

the main thing to be considered by both the pro and anti war people is : how will america be viewed after this and are they ok with the idea of america increasing its reputation as an empire? we've broken international law and violated alot of tenets set forth in the UN, not to mention our justifications for this war are, as yorke said, false. immoral in somes eyes, although from an economic standpoint its a short term gain (in oil. saudi arabia is knocked off the top spot, we gain control of iraqs fields and become a virtual member of opec). long term on the other hand...probably not too pretty.

well .. i think they are happy at the moment (the ones on the camera anyway) - but this oughtn't overshadow what's to come ... the chaos in basra - who is going to run iraq .. all that. ..
mmm..
just a question though - coz i can't quite remember. "regime change" was added towards the very end of the proposal (after US was going it alone?) .. i don't know ..

"Why? Because America is being run by a bunch of religious maniac bigots who stole their election and their only way of retaining power is to wage a war. Find a war: Wage a war. Get the next election. They need this war before the next election, it's the only reason it's being fought. It is not moral it is self-seeking."
Well wageing a war didn't help Bush Sr. get re-elected, so heres to hopeing.

i wouldn't say this war is being fought to get bush reelected. he obviously wants that, and i'm sure its a possible (hopefully not) outcome. but i think his reasons are economic more than political.

Are you from Congo? I hear about the extremely tense situation there, over a thousand people slaughtered in 3 hours. Now where is the media with that story? What are the "concerned" leaders Bush and Blair going to do about that? The same applies for Robert Mugabe. Nothing will be done, as tackling these regimes will bring little corporate gain.

uh....i'm trying to explain why i think hes going to war. not why i think its right for him to go to war. got it? and what will i do? well, i could try and go into politics and take over the country by not getting elected, bend the will of the people to my own personal beliefs, and then use unchecked military power to destroy the infrastructure of a small, relatively irrelevent middle eastern country, and then a small percentage of americans would congratulate me while i didn't bother rebuilding the country i destroyed, instead placing a corrupt leader to head it. ten years down the line i could have my successor declare war on that country again, using a national disaster as an excuse to do so.
rant over.

well, i don't think he's overreacting or whatever somebody said. i don't believe the war is for election though. i think bush actually believes in this war, i think he actually believes that he is doing god's will and he's being saintly and doing the godly thing in the face of worldwide opposition. he has very extreme bible-as-absolute-word-of-god friends. and of course, there's quite a fat carrot waiting for him.

just take it for what it was, nothing more. i think people sometimes READ too much into what people are typing, and not just on this MB.
it's just a pet peeve (of mine) when people misinterpret what you say....but just for the RECORD. thom can say whatever he wants, however he wants.
