Celebrity name-dropping

I've been invited to a celebrity party in London next month
so it's got me thinking, what celebs and famous people have
you met? Ever tried to chat any of them up? ;)

Myself, I had dinner with John Hurt once, I've slept with a
member of parliament and the now Deputy Prime Minister once
bought me a beer :P

I've met/talked to/played bass with/got asked to go on a
course by Herbie Flowers :D

he was the bassist in T-Rex for a while, has worked with a
lot of cool music artists. Look on the back of lou reed's
transformer album :-) or some old david bowie albums, lots
of different artists

fair few:

Sang with Prunella Scales AKA Cybil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers
fame, back in the day when I could still sing in key :)
Met her husband too (forget his name) famous English
classical actor.

Met Cerys from Catatonia and chatted to her for ages.

Told Tim Wheeler from Ash to fuck off (met the whole band
apart from Charlotte) as I didn't recognise him at first and
thought he was pushing in the queue at a festival. Got a
mate who new (and played with) them to apologise on my
behalf a couple of years later :)

Met Neil Hammond from Divine Comedy.

DJ and bassplayer from Public Enemy.

I've seen a lot of other famous people in the flesh
offstage, but unless:

a) I personally like them (I won't talk to famous people
just because they're famous)
b) There aren't millions of fanboys about.
c) They don't look busy/in a rush at all.

I leave them alone. I also won't interrupt a conversation
they're having with a mate either, hence why I didn't chat
to afx/snares at atp. I didn't bother talking to mira calix
as she loooked a bit drunk and stressed out so I left her
alone.

Now I think about it, I've also walked into two celebs while
daydreaming. First was Sue Pollard (nasty), second was Tracy
Shaw (kinda nice).

More things I recall. My mom knows obscure
cartoonist/after-dinner-speaker Bill Tidy. She once cooked
dinner for the President of Ireland too. My dad was mates
with the actor Robert Lindsay.

Leeroy the ex dancer out of the Prodigy, Method Man of the
Wu-Tang, Prince Naseem Hamed and Barry Hearn, Tim Westwood
and Denise out of Coronation St.

the only celebrity y'all would know who i've met (actually
talked to) in person is moby. meeting celebrities is not
something that interests me at all; i don't go to in-store
appearances, i don't hang around concerts hoping the band
talks to fans, i don't watch movies as they're filmed
on-location, etc.

now, if someone i found interesting walked right past me and
weren't busy i would definitely stop them. there're lots of
people i'd like to meet. i've had some fun over the last 2
years talking via email with some of the recording artists i
really admire, but on the other hand i have email addresses
of musicians who i have no interest in talking with. i'm
sure most of us would agree talking with celebs for the sake
of talking with celebs is pretty empty..... end rant. ;)

ecnadniarb, what was meth like? i heard rza is real cool in
person. wu-tang seem down to earth.

theo, harvey keitel? what was the story behind that one?

He is a scary bloke. I never realised he was so tall until
I met him in person. He was quite cool but it was obvious
he was in a rush to get somewhere and me trying to scav a
spare ciggie off him wasn't exactly what he was expecting.
:D

i'm kind of on the same stance as tits, some times i ignore
celebreties if i don't have any interest in them (jason
schwartzmen)

i'd rather shake someones hand than get an autograph...

I met Bret Hart at a WWF event many, many years ago. And the
singer from Great Big Sea. If you're Canadian, you know who
I'm talking about.

Famous people are boring... just like normal people.

Quite a few, actually.

I have even been asked out by someone who has been on the
cover of Rollling Stone, and by one of People Magazine's "50
Most Beautiful People" (1997 or 8), and a couple "big name"
techno guys. And I've encountered tons more techno
producers/DJs and celebs. Hope I don't sound obnoxious
here.

i think what's coolest about DJs/producers is that a huge
chunk of them aren't famous to the point of being
untouchable...keeps them closer to the people who actually
listen
