why do people make them ? i hate this shit. i often got lots of fakes but usually mp3's or other stuff about 10 megs. Nothing really disturbing. But few days ago, i dowloaded the orkester.rfl file for reason 2 from kazza. two weeks of downloading. not very funny getting the 550 megs.
so, i burned the image and woah ! the file is empty ! i mean, fucking 550 megs empty file... this has gone too much. i gone kill these balled bastards making fakes...

For mp3s you can always preview them after a mb or so. For movies, get something like Div Fix which sorts out the incomplete .avi and makes it viewable.
Software is something different, and it pisses me off immensely... dobbin showed me some sort of site which is linked with kazaa lite but I didn't really get it...

agreed. i downloaded a 700 mb file THINKING it was Battlefield 1942 (that's what it said anyway), but when i un-zipped it was some fucking car racing game. on my second try, i found out i've downloaded "Oni" and not the game i was searching for....it almost made me cry.

You're probably talking about sites like sharereactor.com and peerweb.org.
peerweb.org actually has a group of people who verify files and share them using shareaza, emule and/or kazaa. The links on the website are a "fingerprint" of the verified file which is nearly impossible to forge. So you know you are always downloading the correct file, assuming you trust the web site in the first place.
I've used peerweb a few times and have had good luck with it.

Peerweb sounds right. But I don't know whether it works with Kazaa as well as the Lite version.
There were three different extensions of this file I was trying to get... do I open kazaa lite then click on one of the files (Which was a link) - or what? If you know, please help, ta :)

I hardly ever use kazaa. I took a look at kazaa lite and it seems to work. Start kazaa lite and the sig2dat program it comes with. Copy a sig2dat link from peerweb and paste into the sig2dat program window. kazaa lite will then start searching for the file.
If you're getting .bin and .cue files for a release, be sure to get both of them and have a program that will burn them. Nero or CDRwin should do the trick.

what we need is a web site that will serve solely as a resouce for debunking fake files. it will tell you what's not real and what a fake track really is. kind of like a Snopes for the napster age?

I think you might find that the orkestra refill you downloaded isn't empty it is actually the iso from the Apple Mac version :)
I did exactly the same thing. In the end I went out and bought the full package anyway.

sadist sadist sadist! I hope you didn`t delete that!! It IS the right file. All you have to do is rename the extension.
quote: rename FACTORY_SOUND_BANK into Factory Sound Bank.rfl and burn it on a CD-R (as a full normal data cd) IMPORTANT you have to call the CD: SOUNDCD (its name must be SOUNDCD)
Go to this site http://www.voy.com/7737/397.html
it tells you all you need for reason 2.0. To view the full extension of the Reason Sound Bank you downloaded, go to Control panel, Folder Options, View and Unclick the box that says "Hide file extensions for known file types". Then you will see that the file says .exe next to it. GET RID OF .exe and there ya go! A working Reason Sound bank. Hope this helps

It isn't the reason sound bank it is the orkestra disk. I reckon it could be the same thing as happened to me though.
