I love eminem

they have everything to do with promoting his artistic
expressions... and making money. If he really wanted more
easy money though, don't you think he'de accept one of the
offers he's gotten for millions of dollars to push a product
or just show his face in an add?

*sticks both hands down cabbog's throat, tears his head open
and roars "IS THERE A SOUL IN THERE?!""

Laser: he has a vested interest in 8 mile, you know, between
starring in the joint and doing half of the soundtrack.
also, you'll be hardpressed to find artists who don't make
their own merchandise.

i agree with mr. corn, he's a major icon but he's no one's
pawn but his own (i think he forces himself to do things he
doesn't have to do, but technically i really think he could
do whatever he wants at this point--like radiohead, for a
very unexpected comparison).

I think he'll have to as well, he's played the same card a
few too many times now.

too true. as blown away as i am by his technical skills as a
rapper and to some degree as a co-producer, i never put on
any of his albums cos most of the songs are just about how
much people hates and how he doesn't care. it gets pretty
old.

"they have everything to do with promoting his artistic
expressions"

...or....his artistic expressions have something to do with
selling t-shirts... it depends how you look at it I guess.

It'll be interesting to see if he really has that kind of
depth to be able to expand his technical horizons as such...
I think he could if he really wanted to, and with the help
of Dre anythings possible

You win.

Jarworski : And it's fresh every time. If he weren't able
to put a different spin on it, he wouldn't have the sales or
admiration he does. I mean, you could say the same thing
about Trent Reznor --a very unexpected but viable
comparison.

Fuck that man, I don't listen to his music cause I don't
need to hear three fucking albums about what a drunk bitch
his mother was. You don't hear Korn singing about how
painful school was on their new albu.... oh wait. You do.
Never mind.

i'd LOVE to see it. i still see eminem's hunger--look at any
of his mixtape songs and collaborations post-eminem
show--and he hasn't released a "bad" album yet. i think he
needs to get past the celebrity elements of his life and
start focusing on other issues. i'm not expecting him to go
"conscious", nor would i ever want him to do that, but i can
see where he could branch off into other discussions that
he's started to touch on in some songs. i love when he
brings up the fact that he would only have a fraction of the
sales and popularity if he had the same skills but was
black. that needs to be elaborated on more because so many
of eminem's fans don't really get into Hip-Hop With Capital
Letters. let's see, what else... oh yea i like it when he
talks about the government, eg: "renagade" (w/ jay-z),
"white america", and "love me" (w/ 50 cent and obie trice).
there's more; i think he's forgetting he has other stuff to
talk about cos he's so fucked up from the fame. if you look
at him in tv interviews and broadcast performances he's
always really nervous and uneasy. he wasn't built to be one
of the world's top 10 most famous people, which is something
he's still trying, largely in vein, to deal with through his
lyrics.

I'm sure your boys Ae said they liked him.

He's a talented MC but he relies too heavily on shock
tactics.

i think eminem is great. i don't know if i have heard
another wildly popular artist that is half as bad ass as him
in a long time.
anyways, i don't really agree that he is all style and no
substance however...he's got his moments (my personal
favorites on the eminem show being "white america,"
"superman" and track 5, but i forget what it's called...).
i think he's definitely got somethin to say; hopefully he
becomes even more articulate with it.
i like his first album the best (how can you deny the charms
of all those fucked voices he does?), and 8 mile was a
rotten movie....but he really hasn't released a shitty
record yet. that's pretty rare.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-04-07 21:18 [#00637708]
Points: 14550 Status: Lurker

"superman" is so trite.. "white america" i like but it has
its share of cringeworthy, self-obsessed moments.

now, "till i collapse" is a song with substance.

offline mimi on 2003-04-07 21:31 [#00637734]
Points: 5721 Status: Regular

oh, sure, "superman" is nothing groundbreaking but i think
its good anyways.

he raps about himself, yeah...i suppose you could call him
self-obsessed, but it really doesn't bother me at all, so i
probably wouldn't use such a strong term.

honestly i could'nt care less about you liking eminem, but i
think these threads are destroying all the good on the

cuntychuck, for some reason we seem not to get on well

I hope I make posts you like more in the future, but if you
dont like them, whats the point in saying it everytime? we
assume you dont like them, as it has been your opinion on my
last threads, so I think there is no need in saying it
again. you could just ignore me... (only my opinion)

what is it that you dont like about me?

to explain:
"I love eminem" was in my opinion a good thread as I knew it
would cause controversy (75 posts here so far, so it could
be considered an interesting thread for at least 50 people)

as I said I expected controversy cos I know he is not
popular among idm lovers, but the fact is that i like his
last album, so I wanted to know what people thought of
that...

but I never expected that a poster could be as bothered as
you seem to be with my thread... and neither did I expect
such a hard criticism

think about how you make this messageboard look for
newcomers for instance - seeing the list - I love eminem -
some champions league football stuff, and starwars.... great
impression, i think i would turn my head away if i were an

A REAL IDM fan wouldn't turn up his nose at a topic like
this, there's lots of interesting things to say about
Eminem. I'd hope an ''IDM fan'' would have a mind open
