i like emimen, too, though i do hope he 'matures' a bit in
the future. he's got a definite style, he's not just like
everyone else in the game. i like it when he screams, like
on Hailie's Song.

He's afraid of Robert Smigel (Triumph the insult comic dog)
and his music sucks, his attitude sucks, and everyone who
likes him or wishes they were the "real slim shady" sucks.

i hate rap, the genre in general i cannot stand. i think it
makes people stupider seriously. i have legitamate reasons
for thinking that

I love hiphop, I don't know sit about it, but I know I
really like cypress hill, jurassic 5 and the beastie boys
etc etc

But Eminem shits me, no not coz he's pop or anything (well
sometimes it's that -kids crank eminem out of their cars
thinking he's so underground and rebellious it's a bit
lame), but because i listened to the eminem show and yawned
through all of it. slow boring tracks. except for some of
his singles which i liked.

if he did more upbeat fun stuff then i'd like him more

the vibe of eminems music gives me the shits,

I've heard random friends rap, making stuff up on the spot,
just as good as him, eminem is nothing special, he just has
good producers and marketing managers, any old kid off the
block can do what he does...

as for the sound of the actual music itself..
oversimlified, stagnates, goes nowhere, everything he says
is negative, he has a really annoying timbre to his voice
(probably caused by that flanger effect he always puts on
his voice to make himself sound "fuller" or something

sorry nacmat, but me no likey,

also, most people who listen to his music are utter
bastards, when I meet someone who I think is a prick, and
music comes into conversation, I ask "you listen to eminiem"
and they ALWAYS say "yeah he kicks arse"

although nacmat must be an exception to the rule, because
he's way too nice,

dont worry, I dont go rapping with a beisball hat.

I just enjoyed his second album a lot, thats it... I didnt
even buy his records, just downloaded them... but its tru
that I like it... I can deny that.

I dont know much really about eminem as a person... nor
about the average eminem fan.

but dont worry about my music taste... is not always that
bad

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH EMINEM OR HOW HE
HAS SKILL AS A RAPPER???

jeezous you are making my day with these comments.

lets see, you dont know jack shit, you're from australia, so
there most likely isn't a "rap community" like say, here in
detroit, or for millions of other americans.
so i guess you prolly wouldnt know anything.

but still, you're logic as about as strong as my 4yr old

I think eminem is an amazing rapper... but, because of my
fairly low interest in rap in general, I ain't a big fan...
but that latest song of his, with the Aerosmith sample, was
awesome... one of the best songs on the radio and tv in a
long time imo... and it had a good, interesting message I
thought... if he matured, and rapped about meaningful stuff
like that more often he'd be awesome!

i can't think of any emcee right now who is more skilled
than eminem overall. i can think of emcees who are better at
certain aspects of the artform than him but can't match him
all in all. he's just extremely talented in the mechanical
and creative aspects of the style.

this is to say nothing of his actual lyrical content, just
the way he spits bars. lyrically he often creates really
amazing metaphors and has so many lines that give me
goosebumps, but he's one of my least favorite emcees
topically. if he rapped about something different i'd
actually listen to his cd's once in a while. i listen to
them when they come out and then almost never after that.
he's grown a massive ego and until he gets over that his
lyrics will probably always be trite, no matter how powerful
an emcee he is and how capable he is of doing better.

I've never understood the "skill" required in rap myself,
but anyay... ;)

If he produced his own stuff too, I'd respect him more. And
I'm glad he's white and doesn't show himself with tonnes of
girls in an amazing car wearing huge golden chains yapping
about how many whores he...etc.

mr elusive:

1) there is a rap community here, he's the biggest thing
since sliced bread over here, I live near the city in
australia, not in the outback, people DO rap frequently over
here

2) also, most people who listen to his music are utter
bastards, when I meet someone who I think is a prick, and
music comes into conversation, I ask "you listen to eminiem"

and they ALWAYS say "yeah he kicks arse"

obviously that has nothing to do with whether or not
he is a good rapper, but more of a reflection on his effect
on society, I don't think he's done any good personally.

one more thing...

at least eminem isn't rapping about money, cars, bing
bling, money, cars, ad rims

*ahem
"I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley, to do Black Music
so selfishly
and use it to get myself wealthy (Hey)
there's a concept that works
20 million other white rappers emerge"

and I remember one other song where he boasted about being
rich, but I can't be fucked tracing it down,

flame wars are silly, I'm not going to go changing my
opinions on people and music based on someones personal
opinion, it'd be stupid to do so,

If you like emeinem you're an idiot
If you hate eminem you're not "open minded" enough

dreamtheater are full of the most talented musicians but I
don't like their music, because nothing clicks when I listen
to it, talent has nothing to do with whether or not
something is good, I think trent reznors voice is butt ugly,
but he's such a good song writer that he MAKES his voice
work with it, and it sounds good becuase of this,

the only thing that fighting on the net reminds me of are
those people that scribble insults on toilets walls, it's
just plain fucking retarded, noone cares, and it looks
ugly,

elusive, neither of us are going to change our minds, why
don't we agree to disagree sorta thing

lol you picked a bad example there
"I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley, to do Black
Music
so selfishly
and use it to get myself wealthy (Hey)
there's a concept that works
20 million other white rappers emerge"

that's hella astute of eminem. it's not a brag, it's
admitting that he's capitalizing off a black artform (like
elvis did), beating critic's to the punch. that's a great
lyric, the way he says it and just topically.

he's rapped before about how fame and money hasn't brought
him much happiness. notorious BIG was right when he said "mo
money, mo problems." it's true. eminem may stick to some
boring subjects (himself, other rappers, his momma, his
ex-wife, his daughter) and he definitely boasts about his
skills and his success but rarely ever his wealth.

i hope you don't take this as a flame, i'm just commenting
because i feel like i understand eminem better. that's not
recommending him, i think people should listen to whatever
makes them happy or moves them. but i do think i see some
things in eminem that people overlook.

i like trent's voice a lot, i don't know if i've been
conditioned to it though.

i was actually surprised about 2 or 3 years ago when i first
started reading about people thinking trent has a bad
voice.. no one in real life has ever expressed that to me
and it never occured to me. i've always enjoyed his singing
but i've never thought it was amazing like maynard, bjork,
thom, beth gibbons, tori, chris cornell, layne, etc. i think
people who discuss music online or write reviews just have
really high standards because we listen to some really
stellar singers. that doesn't spoil my enjoyment of trent's
voice for me but i can see how it does for others.
