Hmmm. Well if you know anything about her mother say
something like "She lived a good life" and "She was a good
woman". If shes religious at all prolly say "She'll always
be watching you" ect.....

Of course you can always just say "It'll be allright"

Oh and i forgot, "I'm here for you" will let her know people
care.

There is not a lot really you can say at this stage, comfort
her and just be there for her, and be a good friend.

I know this from experience..my mother died of cancer.

I don't know , just be there for here/him .
You know , maybe come over with pizza and stuff like that
(people in sorrow are not likely to eat properly and take
care of them self the first period) and just sit there and
listen.
Thats what my dad did when his boss had lost his son in a
car accident.
I don't think there is anything smart to say that will make
things better , just being there is more important.
Noone should be alone at a time like that.

Tell her, her mother wouldn't want her to be unhappy
now.....and that she must be brave...
