Draft 7.3 disappointment

offline aeCompEntry from Afghanistan on 2003-04-05 08:29 [#00633513]
Points: 19 Status: Regular

god - you dont realise how disappointed i am by this
release. It's really sub-par. I love confield, I love
incunabula - I find draft 7.3 to be boring.

I guess autechre have had a good innings though - they've
been making music for going on 15 years. I think the magic
has run out.

oh well, plenty of great music coming out soon - and check
out globalgoon.com, hes giving away free CDs - youch!

OK, so that's the first Autechre album you don't like, and
you conclude that they have lost it ? Hm...

i find the album to be very pleasing

yes, considering they spent so much time to produce this
album, i feel they have lost it. but they have produced so
much great work, that it barely matters! im so happy with
all their previous work :)

Personally, I am just NOW getting into Autechre. I still
dont like a lot of Squarepusher (the breaking noisy stuff,
anyway) and Im not too fond of most of Confield, but I
really like some of the things on LP5 and I like Amber. :)

I usually only listen to Autechre when Im with Spookyluke,
but lately Ive been having him burn me copies of some stuff.
We are going to college next year, and Im getting what I can
when I can while its convenient. ;)

Listening to it since a whole week almost every day and feel
so blown away.

Well that s your opinion and your opinion is right.

If you can t get into it - then not.

You choose what satisfies yourself.

ok, so you dont believe im disappointed, jesus, can you all
just grow up or something, this isnt a personal attack on
you for liking this album. Its a weak album, but its heavily
hyped, and all the little fan boys buy it because its by
autechre, and autechre are really cool and therefore
i look really cool by listening to it even if is
drivel. Jesus, go and die or something - or better still,
listen to some good music not some dinosaur IDM band. Go
away.

Christ!, it takes me months to digest a new Autechre release
before I can give a definitive opinion on it. However, I got
the CD yesterday and after repeat listens I'm already
leaning towards this being one of the best Autechre
releases... if not the best. They've raised the bar yet
again.

Just my opinion, 'course

perfectly fine if you don't like it
i only heard a couple mp3 ripped from the tape so i can't
say it's a final judgement, but i was not too blown away by
it, it sounds good and all, but if AE can't blow my mind i
don't know why i listen to their noise if you see what i
mean
anyway i'm waiting to hear a correct copy of it before
settling my opinion...

Excellent, you say you're not making a personal attack on
people who like the album and follow it with a personal
attack on people who like the album. Really clever that.

Everytime one of the "big" idm-artists release something new
it's the same thing.

There's always a couple of folks who say "this is their best
album EVER", and "it blows everything else anyone has ever
done away!" "You're gonna love it!"

And then there's also always a couple of people who hate it
upon first listen, and claim said artist has "lost it". "I
love everything else these guys have done... but really,
this sucks!"

Some things will never change :-)

*looking forward to draft 7.30!*

IMO even though it might not sound like it at first, I
believe Draft is a little bit more complex than confield. I
mean listen to TAPR I hear polyrhythms, hell I think I hear
3 in there. And stuff like Surripere, sounds like pure chaos
near the end but after listening to it for a bit it's
starting to make sense. Just takes time to get it.

No. No no and no. I got all their work with time, except
Gantz Graf. Gantz Graf the song is quite impressive in the
first part, but as the beat goes away, it becomes boring and
stupid. I could do better.

And Draft is really a pile of wasted ideas and patches :(

oh c'mon, everyone knows that, here, if you don't agree with
the majority on the quality of an ae album you're retarded,
I know it may takes time to "get it", but don't you think
this guy knows his tastes and knows the other autechre
works?
so instead of attacking him, you could simply explain what
you like and why, and ask for precisions on why he don't
like it...
I mean, what's the point in goin to an ae disapointment
topic just to say it's not true and you're a moron to say
that...

Listening to a new release from Autechre is sort of like
trying anal sex for the first time. Either you think it's
amazing and love it right off the bat or it's kind of
awkward and you're not sure if you like it but you really
want to and are willing to keep at it until you do.

there really is no right or wrong opinion here

i'm sure autechre try to keep their music as "accessible" as
people can really have an opinoin on it if its their first
time hearing it... and also presenting the edge for hardcore
listeners such as i who are willing to take in any sounds
they can put out

if you think they had magic and lost it... maybe it's
because you've become bored of the sempiternal Ae style?
they aren't evolving a lot...

maybe it's not really better nor worse than before, but just
too similar.

maybe.

I got the album throught the post this morning and the track
I like the most so far is IV VV IV VV VIII. It sounds like
a hip hop track with the rapper replaced by a machine
spewing out digital bile.

My first impressions of the album are that it is very good
although some of it does sound a little tired.

Hasn't anyone learned their lesson?

You need to listen to a new Ae release for a MINIMUM of 8
months before you can pass judgement on it. So, IMO, no one
understands this one yet.
