surripere - the rest just doesn?t do it for me - it?s just
messy, like random strokes of paint on a painting - I WANT
MELODY & HARMONIES!

(OMG - things aren?t what they used to be: Apple drops it?s
best GUI (Mac OS 9) and all my once favorite musicans has
lost the ability to make great music - what next? Taxes on
breathing?

i think you need to take a more carefull listen, try to
think of creative melodies and you'll find the harmony in
it. try with headphones on.

Initially, I would probably say P.NTIL ...but at the end of
the day, it's good ol' Surripere. Each song is really
special in it's own way though. But yeah, Surripere..

on a side note
I love how uneasy this album makes you.. And it's funny,
I've played it for a few other people (even some people
totally unfamilliar with autechre) and all of them
have said that it makes them uncomfortable.. wow.

It makes me uncomfortable.. and I love it.

Heh, it makes me uncomfortable to have other people knowing
I'm listening to it. Today at work I thought I was alone so
I put it on an listened a bit, then I heard the cleaning
woman scuttling around behind some shelves, obviously
thinking "crazy white guy likes listening to buckets falling
down the stairs".

Hey you know what I just noticed? Not only does that mp3 of
the taped demo suck ass sound quality wise, the one I have
is also too slow.

Listening to the CD it's like an entirely different album.

Damn you all, I wish I had some money :P What other ae
release is it most comparable to? Please say Incunabula,
lol

i think it is very similar to confield

I don't really care much for it really. I really love
Incunabula, but this doesn't sound anything like it. If I
was more fond of autechre I could compare, but I'm not. I'm
still buying the Gantz Graf dvd for the videos, but thats it
until they make something I like again.

fuuuck, wish they'd bring back some old-skool flava :(
Incunabula and Amber have such sweet molodies *sniff*

Yeah, I've listened to it. It's good, but not great. I
can't listen to it multiple times a week like Incunabula,
but it's still enjoyable to hear. Mo ol' skoo shiot!

Fair enough, Incunabula is their best album imo too (I take
it you're under that opinion :P) and also happens to be my
fave cd of all time, do you know if you can buy it on vinyl?

I love all of Autechres releases except for Confield, I
don't see what all the fuss is about really...Pen Expers and
Lentic Carachresis are the only tracks I really enjoy...
Blardy hell though, so the new one doesn't have many
'melodic' tracks?

Yeah, you can get Incunabula on vinyl still. Just go to
warprecords.com. And yes, I think it is thier best album.
Draft 7.30 kinda annoys me really. The second half of the
album seems to be a little more melodic, but also sounds
kind like randomly generated patterns a lot of the time.
Just go download and hear it for yourself. Then decide
whether or not to buy it....

Guess I'm alone in the Reniform Puls loving. God I just
fucking love the way that whole song is set up.

I find tracks 1-4 are the most "challenging" in the sense
that they don't have much surface-pretty, and tracks 5-10
are more immediately satisfying, meaning I guess more
traditionally "pleasant". Are they trying to tell us
something - that they're progressing away from surface-ugly
and back towards surface-pretty, or is the song sequence
random, do you think?

The hidden track is interesting, as it sounds like a hybrid
of both approaches - pretty and ugly at the same time.

oh and i dont think theres anything random about it. just
like confield and gantz graf.. theres a point to each
element, when you listen to the combination of sounds as a
whole these fantastic grooves drop out
