its an open source thingy. dead obscure. geeks like to use to encode their music to show how out there they are when normal people just use mp3 or wax cylinder.

.ogg is like .mp3 the difference is that mp3 is a licenced format, meaning that in order to 'update' the mp3 format, the owner of the rights to the format would have to do it themselves, or other people would have to pay royalties in order to do so,
on the other hand, '.ogg' files are a dynamic format, the codec is still being updated to this day, and at the moment .ogg has a technichally superior sound to mp3's, but a slighlty worse compression rate, as well as that, .ogg files use up system resources a lot more than mp3's do.
hope that answers a few questions.

also, .ogg uses variable bitrate and is much smaller size than mp3's and has better sound quality. Me and my friend used it alot to send to each other tracks we made. Took a short time and the quality was good, but that was before ADSL :)

.ogg -> Ogg Vorbis.
Of course, that begs the question, "What the hell does 'Ogg Vorbis' mean?"
Sounds like a track off drukqs.
