ok you all know I am about to finish my article on music
and architecture.
I got a problem.
I have to use some artworks for my article and I dont know
if it is legal that ii use them in a magazine

I asked warp and they had no problem, but there are other
labels that have not answered to my mails
the designersrepublic didnt answer me either

so I have to write the article soo ann I wonder if it is
illegal to do what I am doing

what can I do?
do you think the labels or the designers republic could have
some legal action against the magazine?

the magazine (the article) just writes about the relation of
artworks music and architecture

um. im no lawyer, so dont quote me on this... but i think
you could very well have problems runnign that. i dont think
someone liek tdr is gonna give you a hard time, but is it
worth risking?

I wouldn't use anything you haven't had the permission to
use.

tell them to go fuck themselves if they dont have the time
to reply to your message, then its a go ahead.. . so long as
youve given them adequit warning. ..

You should do what I do. Whenever I send something like that
in Email I write at the bottom a bunch of text like, in your
case, "Silence means consent" and I simply change the colour
of the text to white.

:)

Your ass is covered!

If it's going to be sold, then that's where the problems
arise (again,i'm no lawyer).

Permission is always the best route. Those who agree, will
probably just ask for credit for any material used.

Those who don't give permission, will probably sue yer ass
off!!

hth.

actually - use the images and email the people saying you
are, and to email you back if they don't want you to - I
think that's acceptable

actually warp showed me no problem and designers republic
who have already answered liked the idea too... so I dont
think any other would see a problem there...

I still cannot contact radiohead label or beatles label

"Your ass is covered!"

> ...covered with what?
j/k

i don't think it would be a problem, unless they are *very*
fussy about this!

Just make sure you credit them. I think it won't be a
problem as long as you dont present the artwork as your own
work.
But then again... who am I to decide?

as long as you don't publish it you have no problem at all.
things get difficult if you make money out of it (in any
way)

You always get permission first...otherwise it is a breach
of copyright laws...

Michael Jackson, wasn't it..?

he once bought all the Lennon/McCartney songrights..

but then didn't McCartney buy them back again.. HOW
CONFUSING!!

well, anyway, the Beatles used to come out on their own
label, Apple records..
