Heya folks,
I'm thinking of getting a hardware sequencer for live stuff but i'm having trouble finding one that suits my needs.
Do you guys have any suggestions? Also, the cheaper the better :)
i want to use it to trigger an S5000 sampler and would like if it had knobs that transmitted midi info as well. Also, if it has built-in sounds as well, it would be a bonus. I was thinking of getting a Roland MC 303 but the knobs don't transmit midi data, Yamaha DX 200 sounded sweet until i discovered it skippes the first note every time you change a pattern!
At the moment, it looks like it might be the Korg Electribes M that I'll end up getting.
Thanks

hmm i havent tried that.
ive got the electribe-s as a sampler, and for that purpose its good
its sequencer is useful, but it has restrictions
so i would expect the same of the es-m
restrictions in as much as you cant do fine step notation, and you cant do real-time phrasing.. which is what id look for in a sequencer
i use a 10-year old roland mv-30 sequencer for those purposes and anything midi, it was one of the first machines to actually do real time phrasing. picked mine up for about $400au.
if thats the sort of thing youre looking for perahps read into it and link to something similar.. thats my advice

i also use it as a synth in conjunction with the korg es-1 filters

Cheers, i'll try that. What's "real time phrasing" tho? Does that allow you to punch in the notes on the fly like on a drum machine??

Cheked that out, don't really think it's an option tho, they stopped making them years ago :( looks like a pretty sweet machine tho! Any other ideas???

its the same but also more involved than that.. lets say you have programmed a sequence/phrase into the mv-30
you can have 8/16 of them on hand that you can trigger on the fly/in real time by sending a note thru a midi keyboard
the triggered sequence can be sent thru the mv-30s own timbres, or can be sent by midi into an external sampler

yeah.. i found two by chance.. here in west australia of all places. all i can say is choose something with real-time phrasing over anything else.. if the electribe m does that, then its a good sequencer. rps seems to be rolands specialty..
