i wanted to install the free version of pro tools,
downloadable from www.protools.com. i tried to install it
and shit ! it doesn't support winxp.
what versions of pro tools work on xp ? but of course don't
need the pro tools hardware ? i downloaded pro tools le from
kazza, installed it and suddenly when i started it it wanted
the hardware, which i don't have.

besides, which version is rdj using ? the free one ?

please help

what's the pitchbend/timestretch like on cubase sx?

that's the only reason i could see needing to use protools?
protools times/pbend kicks feckn ass. isn't audio editing
meant to be a lot more like protools on sx anyway?

i don't know. i never used pro tools and that's why i want

cubase seems to dificult for me :)

besides, rdj is using pro tools. i wanted to check it out.
someone told me he makes his live mixes in it ?

live mixes in protools? i don't know, but that would
surprise me. I mean, by all means give protools a go, but I
mean cubase does pretty much everything protools does, plus
good midi sequencing, vst effects etc. etc.???

for live mixing i think stuff like ableton live and traktor
are more popular/better suited?

I guess Sadist mixed it up with Ableton Live.

Sadist, why don't you dig out Cubase a bit more, it's really
worth it imo.

were you replying to me or chambre noire?
coz 10GB shouldn't be a problem re: vst. Midi doesn't take
up any space anyway ..

i think rdj used protools back in the icbyd days (which'd be
pretty similar to protools free software wise, only allow
more than 8 audio tracks) .. who knows what he uses these
days ...

yeah .. I totally second that!

aside: what's cubase sx's timestrech like? bit dissapointed
that cubase vst only does a factor of 1.25 :(

ceri, what's floops like in terms of strechy-ness?

that granulizer plug-in is well mad.

You can apply it a lot to individual instruments, but it
distorts pretty quickly. If you want it to actually stay in
pitch rather than just be played faster/slower (like a
record deck) I recommend you use wavelab/cooledit etc. on
the samples outside floops.

I'm just getting into granulizer at the moment, I really
like it.

i still use protools free for serious time stretching and
pitchbending ...

10 giga was to chambre. 2 wins on my hdd is too much.
i mean, the thing i really need is something like a software
sampler, nothing like kontakt and shit, but something i can
easily record an input, slice it and loop it instantly...

when i would be a vst program, or it would be with rewire i
would be glad...

native instrument Battery has got pretty good reviews and
its looks like it might do what you're looking for!?

it can be stand alone or vst plug-in ... also meant to be
pretty straight forward to use - sounds like a winner to me.

that's what i mean, i can't record external input...

an emulator for a mikser would be nice... i mean that you
can see something like a hardware mikser on your screen, but
with external inputs...

all of the other programs i named in the other thred are set
almost the same w/ small differences including the pro tools
version. Cubase will work just as well for sequencing. If
you want to get into recording though you want pro tools.
however If you are looking for somthing more affordable
chack out Mark Of The Unicorn(MOTU) stuff. They just put out
a new line that is giving pro tools a run for money. They
also put out a USB/Firewire version to use with a Laptop for
live aplications. I use MOTU and I highly recomend it.

PRO TOOLS cannot work on XP. The only way you can use it is
to add and extra partition on your HD and use it in Win98. I
tried upgrading to XP but I use Cubase 5 and the crack
didn`t work on that so I had to go back to Win ME which
sucks. Bill Gates is a crack whore!
