Hey Mr. Teeth,

I'm not totally sure about this one - apparently it's a
"Music tracking software for the GameBoy Advance" for the
PC. The idea is you write the music on your PC and save it
in a file that can be read and played by a GBA (I think). I
literally downloaded it the other day and haven't paid much
attention to it, so I could be wrong. The demo track sounds
pretty wicked, with some extremely dodgy 8-bit sounds, so it
must be capable. You can find it here. Worth
investigating.

Also, have you tried ReFX's SID emulator? That's pretty
cool, and pretty cheap too. Some really cool cheap arcade
sounds can be coaxed out of it.

Chris.

I forgot to tell you what it's called! It's called BoyScout,
and I'm faffing about with it now. It's pretty cool!

i am trying it out tonight on my computer at home

i have downloaded it and i am having a look at the
instructions, am i right to say that the prog can be
controlled an used on a pc or does it have to be used in
conjunction with a gameboy ?

Nope, no GameBoy needed whatsoever. I guess the program
emulates the GB's sound chip or something, allowing you to
compose a track for it on your PC. You can then save the
file in a special format that will, once transferred to a GB
rom, be playable on a GB. But you can just compose tunes on
the program and forget about the GB transfer side of
things.

The only problem is you can't export a .wav of the track
(after all, why would you if you were writing for the GB?)
so you'd just have to set up SoundForge or something to
record in the background while you play the song through. It
does seem to skip occaisionally, and doesn't play at all if
it isn't the active window, but it does sound pretty cool.

I guess the best way to get to grips with it is to analyse
the demo tune.

Chris.

Good news as I have no gameboy.

I will start composing tonight. I will try to knock out a
tunes and bring it along next thursday.

I have also started tp experiment with plug in for fruity
loops, they are quite good. I might start to design my own
if my brain allows.
