Could someone recommend a good jungle or ragga track/album?
I cant get enough, unfortunately most of my jungle tracks
are by dj hype. Id really like to check out some different
artists.

Just buy a compilation album, much easier as most Jungle
artist's albums a crap with only a couple of good tracks, you
can't go wrong with a compilation.

Im really not in the market for any more drum n' bass.
Especially of the dara, deisel, AK vareity.

More of the Dj hype/shyfx realm.

Thanks everyone. except for that nasty thread hijacker.

Todd Terry once made a nice DnB album called "Resolutions".
It also has the hit "Let it ride" on it.
That track is sweet, even made it high in the dancecharts...

bit harsh that one. ed rush is great though. i never got a
clear answer on the whole 'whats the diff between jungle and
dNb?' question, and as far as i'm concerned there is none.

so here goes:

ed rush & optical
dillinja
total science
ltj bukem
dj zinc (check out beats by design)

From what ive read, the name of the genre was originally
jungle. But then it was changed due to the racist
connotations. Though theres obviously a distinct difference
when you compare tracks marked d 'n' b and jungle.

a difinitive jungle track would be: Shyfx - Original Nuttah
/ Technical Itch - The Rukus.

where as a definitive drum and bass track would be:
ak1200 - climate controll / Dj Dara - special K - pressure
roll or something in that same vein which emphises the bass
more than any other elements of the track.

junbgle is an older name for drum and bass - some people
like shut up and dance said it was a rascist name .
ed rush and optical etc are tech step - more techno like
breakless drum and bass

ok, well, i dont know much about music , but what i do know
is that ed rush & optical make 100% real, serious, hardcore
and underground drum&bass, and that calling their music tech
step is possibly the biggest fucking insult you could throw
at them. i dont find anything about them techno like and i
do listen to techno as well.

besides theres no such thing as breakless drum&bass. if you
can't find any breaks, i suggest you listen to the wormhole
album some more.

christ i'm getting all upset again and its such nice weather
out..

my sincere apologies already, i did a google search and
found among a list of tech step artists: ed rush. to my
complete surprise. i think i was mistaking tech step with
two step or some other half assed genre and i do know theres
different styles of dnb but i had never seen actual
subgenres before.

still, i dont think its techno like, and the breaks are
there..

offline Dolleater from Afrika Bambaataa on 2003-03-29 06:04 [#00622688]

I guess. but theyre far from underground. Thats for sure.

as far as i'm concerned, the whole dnb scene is underground
(like the idm/electronica scene) in a way. even if ed rush
is a well known dj/producer among junglists, i doubt that
even the majority of people on this board has ever heard his
music.

so who wants to open a new thread called 'what exactly is
'underground?' ?

dont ask me. its just a feeling :P

as for artists to check out perhaps dj zinc, he works
alongside hype a lot. try krome and time, potential badboy
(more oldskool), edrush, goldie, doc scott, ray keith (more
dnbish than jungle), origin unknown, Q project, splash
(babylon is a wicked tune), urban shakedown, mask, noise
factory. but albums, jungle massive has a good range of
styles or slammin vinyl classic old skool dnb or whatever it
is called. some of them are good too. or the slammin vinyl
tapes you can pick up in record shops that sell dnb
