Get "the fragile". A weird comprehensive and beautiful
album. Also, be sure to get "the perfect drug" track from
somewhere. brilliant shit.

the fragile is my favorite... not an album to appreciate as
"background music" though!
the first three tracks really act like a therapy when you're
feeling sad and angry against something or someone... first
(somewhat damaged) is like catharsis, second (the day the
world went away) calms down and transforms the anger to
melancholy, then the third (the frail, just a beautiful
little piano instrumental) brings beauty and peace. the rest
of the album is very good quality too... six instrumentals
out of the 23 tracks. you have to hear at least 'the great
below' if you haven't, it's one of the most beautiful nin
songs ever!
last point... the weakest point of nin being the teenage
angst caricatural lyrics - on the fragile not ALL lyrics are
like this (even if most still are). ; )

apart from that, pretty hate machine is a 80's industrial
classic, i would recommend this one too : )
the latest halo (and all that could have been - live) is
very good (if you pick the deluxe edition but i don't think
it's still available! not in USA at least)...
the remix albums further down the spiral v.1 and v.2 contain
some little gems as well (one version is better than the
other, it's the one without all the 'eraser' remixes).
and the broken EP, though i got a bit bored of it.
