...will be all mine tomorrow, when its realised here! I
suppose I should treat myself to a new game for it!

Anyone else getting/got one?

I want one so bad but I have no "bling bling". Super Puzzle
fighter is coming out and I must get it. Ahhhhh

It does look very desirable(slurp).

The fact u can play most of yer old games is a novel
one(unlike it's big brothers-N64 etc, whose games were not
compatible with it's successor),but you knew that
already....

Nintendo r surely onto a winner here....

i like the look of it... but now you can pick up a normal
gba for £40 or less that is identical in performance

True, but the SP has a backlit screen (no light source
needed) and rechargeable lithium batteries.

Will be getting one at some point but more important things
to buy first. VINYL!

Don't wanna be a wise guy but actually the GBA SP is
frontlit. If it had backlight the battery would be empty in
no time.

If I could pay with pocket lint I'd buy one right now.
Soon... Very soon...

You don't have any GBA games yet? I'd go with Metroid
Fusion or Zelda : A Link to the Past. Advance Wars and
Tactics Ogre are also good.. It depends on what you're
into. I heard Mario 3 is slated as the next Advance port.
Final Fantasy Tactics is coming out soon too.
Everyone should have a GBA.

You're spot on there mate. It is indeed frontlit.

it's not quite as identical as you would think tho, but the
main reason for getting it over the "normal" GBA is that
frontlit screen because you could hardly see anything on the
normal one, even when sitting under a lamp or daylight. One
thing that could prove troublesome to me just by drooling at
the pics is the positions of the start and select buttons
that are now further removed from the A and B buttons. But
it's probably nothing as it's a really small device and
those pics make the distance seem further removed from each
other than they are in reality. Anyway, nr.1 on my need to
get list right now! Let us know how much ass it kicks Jedi
Chris!

xyramax.co.uk will fit a light to a gba for not much cash.
they sell gba's prefitted too. im sure there will be
someone in the US doing it..

that looks like a solid option for people who feel cheated
after buying the original GBA, however I'd go for the SP if
only for the excellent retro game&watch look

I just use emulators to play GBA games. I wouldn't play it
''on the run'' anyway... I don't got the DeNiro to spend on
GBA when I can get it for free, and with save states. But
any of you guys are welcome to donate a GBA SP to me if you
want!

*pats Gameboy Color* old school, biatch!

i'm definately not buying one because the 12" powerbook is
way better than some shit gameboy that will be outdated in
6months anyday!

Wonderfull thing - I'm so happy!

The store where I bought it from were doing a special on the
prices of the games....so I had the following

Zelda: A Link to the Past (£10 off)
Sonic Advance 2 (£10 off)
Super Street Fighter II (£5 off)

So all in all I came out of the store VERY happy!!

sweet :-)
How does it play? I haven't seen a real one yet, but all the
pictures make it look so small... i fear it might be too
tiny for my hands.

Not that i'll buy one (probably)... i'm more likely to buy
one of those things that let you play GBA-games on the
gamecube :-) (when it gets released). But nintendo needs to
release some more new GBA-games first (otherwise i'll
just get a 2nd hand snes from somewhere ;-)).

Its very good! Getting used to the 'back' buttons now, the
more I use it....

..I like it - mine is black, to match my Gamecube.

yes indeed i do feel ripped off, again (i also bought a
gameboy color, then the gba).

but then its also kind of funny.
main complaint about gba: no backlit screen. what does
nintendo do? upgrade it and make the same mistake (no,
frontlit screen really isnt that revolutionary and not much
better than sunlight or your trusty old night-stand lamp),
then they act like that really was the only option because a
backlit screen would drain batteries. well who the fuck
cares if you can recharge them? fucking idiots.

also, they killed their own plans for gamecube and gba
compatibility.

i wonder if i should buy a gamecube or just wait for the
next console. or the one after that, or..

offline Jedi Chris on 2003-03-28 10:47 [#00621584]

10 hours of gameplay using the 'front lit screen' - more if
you switch it off, and use it like the original GBA.

The only thing I was surprised about was the lack of
headphone socket on it..but there is a small adapter you can
buy seperate, so I'll get one of them I think.

ehhhh, you win some, you loose some.

Nonetheless, no light source needed!!

But how long does that built-in battery last? I remember i
bought a rechargable-energy-battery-type thing for the
original game boy (official nintendo product)... and it
worked fine for about a year and a half... after which it
did nothing anymore. I even went back to the store,
but they said there was just a maximum amount of times you
could reload it... and i had used it up. Which sucked.

And also normal rechargable AA-batteries can only be
recharged a 1000 times.

So does that mean eventually the GBAsp will become
worthless?

Still... if this means the normal GBA will drop it's price,
i might get one of those ;-D

I would imagine you'd be able to buy a replacement one....no
different I wouldn't imagine from getting a replacement
battery for your mobile phone - but if you're anything like
me, you change your phone every 12 months...when the
contract expires!

oh okay... didn't know about that :-) I thought it was all
just completely internal.
So the battery is replacable? Sweet!

By the way, if you're like me you don't even have a mobile
phone, let alone replace it! :-p

i feel so cheated though for buying a gba (i got it like a
year and a half ago and now this is it) alas I doubt i'll
get it. i also have original gameboy and color gameboy which
was useless.
