War on War

Just so people can't claim I didn't tell them...

Any new topics on war/anti-war will be closed. This a music
MB at the end of the day, not a political one.

By all means keep the existing threads, but don't create any
new ones.

If you don't like it- go elsewhere. There are 101 places
online you can discuss war...

no I very much like it.
I was just refering to DW Griffith's old movie.
I don't care about the war topics.
So do your best, just keep this messageboard alive =)

Go to forums from newspapers or tv stations for discussing
the news.

Funny, cos up til now it's been taken as read that this
messageboard has transcended the constrictions of being just
about music - it's become what I like to call a community -
so our conversations have expanded, and we behave like a
community - which is the reason it functions so well -- by
tightening the screw, the mb will be ruined, mark my words.

So does that mean we can`t talk about
movies, books, art, philosophy, any current events in the news
(unless you want to talk about them of course and express
your views)etc.etc.

Well this place is gonna be shit then (unless you are a
moderator) :D

but i don't want to discuss the war with a bunch of
strangers :-(

The reason this place is so cool that (silly as it may seem)
you feel like you get to 'know' the people on here. I'm
interested in their opinions. Ofcourse there are people all
over the web either for or against the war... but i don't
know them... and frankly just talking about the war
would also become boring. I just like this site, and i'd
like to be able to talk about everything on my mind.

I'll be posting alot less from now on. I agree with
marlowe... this is the beginning of the end.

I think it's not as bad as it seems.
Off course you can talk about anythig.
That's what we allways did.
but I think the big amount of war-topics and all the
different opinions are not good for the board.
people start becoming really agressive and rude in
discussions like that, and that is not the kind of behaviour
we want on this board.
People here used to be nice and polite to eachother, no
matter what.
That is why I liked it here so much.
I regret those days are over.

"People here used to be nice and polite to eachother, no
matter what.
"

...

"I regret those days are over."

And you think this will help?

I really honestly do not mind if discussions become a bit
heated... this subject (the war) is important enough for it!
Plus: if "the people" were really getting tired of talking
about it, the war-threads would simply get no replies. But
people want to talk about it... you can't just close your
eyes and pretend nothing is going on right now. Even if this
is a site about music, a war affects everything and
everyone.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2003-03-23 06:36 [#00611217]
Points: 24593 Status: Regular

It's the war affecting everyone's behaviour - it's only
natural. And shit, it's still mostly convivial and polite on
this mb - so a few spats arise in the war threads - I'm sure
no grudges will be born. not that I read those threads, far
too depressing!

I can only hope it will help.
I don't mind people discuss anything they want, as long as
they respect eachother.
that does not happen anymore,(newbies?) so maybe it's a good
thing to close NEW war topics from now on.
people need to cool down

I'm sure he'll be making 3 tracks a day rather than his
usual one. No MB for him = more knobject music :D

He'll probably come back in a months time with a record deal
and retired from selling his huge back catalogue of tracks
to them.

I hope he does come back, I really like him.

i think both sides are over-reacting a bit. i see alot of
opinions here i agree with, and i'm no troll. i have always
been in support of the mods and phob for doing what they
gotta do to maintain sanity on here. this... hm, this seems
a bit much. maybe i dont know all the behind the scenes
stuff. i agree, the war topics have been dominating the
board lately. but i think thats to be expected. i dont think
you can really stop it. i mean, IT'S A WAR!!! people are
dying while im sitting here talking about the virtue of abb3
as opposed to abb4 (thats for you, nacmat). so yeah, i
figure people want to figure their feelings out. and they
want to talk to friends, which i assumed alot of us ARE.
sure, its a music message board... but theres only so much
that can be said about confield. i just hope both sides can
be a bit more understanding and not start some war on this
board over it.

I couldn't stand anything.
