War on War

Well, I can kind of see your point, but only in relation to
silly topics. Unecessary war topics should be deleted as
unecessary normal music ones.

But if we are confined to using existing threads then people
new to a thread, or anyone who's not read it in the last
hour even, will have to trawl through hundreds of posts to
get an idea of what is being discussed. New topics with 100+
posts put me off. But then that might be the point.

Again, to re-iterate... this is not an attempt to hush up
the war. I accept people want to discuss it here. I asked
that it was kept to the existing threads, that's all!

I think I understand ceri

some of us love football:
do we start thousands of threads on this subject?
no, we just post about it in one thread (this summer was in
the huge world cup results)

woofer, tolstoyed, and many others know that if they want to
know about the last football news they will see it in that
thread...
nice football talks there

Yes, that hit the nail on the head exactly!

Look at the world cup or Star wars threads- both running
into the 1000s of posts. If those had been spread 10
messages to a thread (like some of the war ones) that'd be
100 threads within a month (more on the star wars ones).

Whilst a lot of people here are into star wars and want to
discuss it, they accept that not everyone wants to have to
search through scores of threads to find something un-star
wars related and as a result no one ever had a problem with
it.

ok point taken about the thread btw the way is a bit of mess
to decipher at this point as there are many prongs to the
war debate

However I have never seen any topics banned on Sept 11 yet
Flea's ancestors hail from Afghanistan which was talked
about...bombed heavily and is occupied by the US/UK etc and
the civilians dehumanised. The remark made by Steve Martin
summed up American sentiment stating that Afghanistan had
put out a film about a camel - no more than a racial slur

I see by banning Flea for his approach to the topic, I
warned him not to post those two Prowar and Antiwar topics
but he felt strongly that the existing thread was not titled
that so would get lost and hard to recover. I see this also
is being insensitive to him being the Middle Eastern
contributor to the board who has been exposed to the
experince of tanks monitoring political groups on campus at
Uni in Pakistan and I believe he has deep concern about what
is unfolding in Iraq and wishes to discuss his feelings on
the issues that are confronting us.

Pantalaimon attacked him and then ran off like the coward he
is stating his view and then suggesting a ban, then
returning to post prowar opinions on the thread after
stating his wish to stop all war topics. If anything for his
shit stirring conduct which I encountered with his
slanderous remarks I think a ban should be imposed on him.

So how about it then Ceri I think you should unban flea, he
is offended by your actions which I find totally unfair and
unbased

We also want to avoid a situation such as exists on the
SuicideGirls.com boards, where you get flamed like crazy for
starting a new topic on something that's already been
discussed, no matter how long ago.

Firstly, he only has a temporary ban...

I think that anyone who saw those two topics he mad would
agree that he was asking for it. I know Flea is of afghan
descent and I understand how strongly he feels about it, but
when I asked him specifically not to create new topics I saw
those two topics as being given the finger.

As much as it pained me to ban it, it would of been unfair
not to after I had banned other people for going against
warnings. I can't make exceptions jsut because Flea is my
friend.

Again, to emphasise ***My decision had nothing to do with
pantalaimon's request***.

Decisions...decisions....decisions.....

.....rather you be a moderator than me, I wouldn't want to
have done that....as a friend I hope Flea forgives you!

I doubt Flea will hold a grudge, Ceri gave him plenty of
warning and made it all very clear.

It's a tough situation, but I like the soccer (ahem...
football) and Star Wars analogy. A new topic isn't needed
everytime a US plane drops a bomb on somebody
accidentally... that seemingly happens every hour.

I stand behind Mr. PurplePants' decision.

I think that's a fair comment.

What about threads on WARP?
You cant spell WARP without WAR?
And are Star Wars threads going to be banned as well?

i don't understand the point of closing topics. if a topic
gets multiple replies, obviously people feel a need to
discuss/argue topic and you should let it be. don't read it
if you don't like. at the end of the day this is a message
board for folks who have similar music tastes... it's
obviously not a strict music discussion board.

exactly

i have always thought the same thing. With maybe an
exception for threads where people get flamed and/or really
badly insulted.

Banning people is one thing, but closing threads...
