I'm buying a HD-recorder (Fostex DMT-8VL: site1,
site2, infor3), but I really have no clue
what to use it for - i'm only buying it cuz it's fucking
cheap and I'm sure I will need it in future productions.

Which cool features do you think a HD-recorder has in making
music?

I've read that some pros use direct to disk programs coupled
with a fast reliable HD (lok at the new IBM drives and The
seagate ones...) apparently tascam hd recorders aren't that
reliable, but that's all I know on the matter.

well I could imagine that I could make my recordings more
flexible...since I could make some hiphopbeat, record them
into the recorder, and then go to my friends house to
directly record the vocals....mmm....

Yes it was an interview with the guy who scored "ice age"
and other films. He just used a flight boxed pair of PCs
with direct to disk recording software. It might be worth
you looking at wavelab (software). It's what I use and it's
excellent.

Only thing to be aware is that if you're recording two
different streams at once (eg video at the same time) it
might be worth recording to a seperate HD.
