Protest Protesting

I want to do this, but can't think of a way to organize
it.

I see large signs with "Protesting" in the international
circle w/strikthrough in red.

How should I motivate my local community members to rally
against stupidity and protest protesting?

so whose got some hints?

I figure a group of like 5 people could nicely attach
themselves to the next nazi peace protest and make
headlines......

oh the possibilities.

do a net search, get some phone numbers, and ask.
votenowar.com sent me an organizer's packet. But nothing
that would help me organize a large protest.
try putting up some flyers. Go to school and get to know who
the invloved people are, and start making connections

in democracies citizens have the right to protest actions of
their government they disagree on...

freedom of speech, freedom of protest without being called
idiot hippies anyone?

Or does freedom only come in the form of America's intensely
convincing slogans such as "enduring freedom" and the
innovative "freedom fries" ?

insulting protesters with words such as "idiot" and
"stupidity" hardly servers as part of a rational argument on
your part BlatantEcho

make some signs that say "I hate freedom of speech" and go
walking around with your mouth duct taped shut, that should
do the trick.

anti anti ignorance...what makes you think that these
protesters are that stupid...after all its a propoganda war
to manufacture consent

Bush is the successor to Adolf Hilter, he is advocating
death to millions of Iraqi. He wants to drop 3000 bombs on
the first day, and the MOTHER of all bombs...for what? The
US is using as per usual the weapons inspectors like prawns
in a much bigger chess game.

What is democracy?...what is facism?
Living in AMerica right now is like the start of Nazi
Germany..gather round a group of brown shirts around you to
quash the dissenting voices and you are one step closer...

*sigh*

"what makes you think that these
protesters are that stupid"

you follow that up with
"Bush is the successor to Adolf Hilter"

and since when do I not have the freedom of speech to
protest morons in tie-dye who make a mockery of our states
education system by protesting a situation they don't
understand?

it's funny that protests for peace are rather hostile and
violent toward those who oppose them.

so I guess no one has any real ideas about a good way to get
my war against ignorant masses off the ground?

maybe I'll just stand on a street corner with a friend with
a sign and see how it goes.

offline MongoloidBaby from Savannah (United States) on 2003-03-18 01:02 [#00601268]

so because they don't agree with it that automatically means
they don't understand it? what makes you the high and mighty
king of situation understanding? Have you talked to each and
every protester about why they don't like bush's actions and
come to the conclusion that they don't understand them? Oh
no waaaait, you're making judgements about people and
opinions before YOU understand them. Shit, it's pot kettle
black time.

surprised if that nice lady that lives around the corner
with those hot daughters sends one of them along with some
lemonade for your troubles..

way to turn a thread into something it isn't.

I want ideas how to counter-protest, in a satirical manner,
people I consider moronic lowlifes.

You don't like George W. based on his politics and action, I
don't like peace protests based on their politics and
actions.

you and I dislike people for the same basic reasoning, I
just hate your people and you mine, I don't really give a
fuck.

I'm trying to take my ideas public, and I thought there
would be a few more creative ideas here than trying to shun
MY freedom of speech.

I'm just pointing out your hypocritical bullshit, and boy is
it hypocritical... and bullshitty.

Go ahead and protest the protests... but if you can't think
of a way to do it on your own, you're probably not smart
enough to get your point heard anyway.

heh, so basically you're just trying to go against whatever
is "popular?" ... good way to do it man. Fuck, I think that
next week "Acting dumb for the sake of acting dumb" is going
to be popular... you might want to get a head start on going
against it now.

hey take a listen to Bush's speeches and see how he forms
sentences and tries to justify his actions...e.g. Bush's
speech where he says that the US are a peace loving country...gee I wonder
where that went

he contradicts everything he says...the man is ignorance
personified and anyone who buys his ignorance for a minute
is being led by an ignorant by a nose ring

anyway, I think you missed my point.

I want to raise awareness, like you said, that peace
protesting like everyone finds so socially responsible,
isn't the only logical path.

I don't want war, who does? But sometimes following blindly
the mass of people who say one thing is good, is bad.

I'm neither for war, nor against it, I just don't like
seeing so many people suckered in to waiving a peace flag
when they understand very little about the geopolitical and
socioeconomic environment in the middle east, or even about
their own country.

I want to raise the issue, in a satirical manner, that there
are at least two sides to this issue.

There have actually been people out protesting peace
protesters, i saw a few shots of them, but anyway, i was
pointing toward your general outlook tonight, and this
statement specifically:

>there is no deep point, just satire vs. the masses

yeah, what's popular is not always right, but as an aside,
what's popular is also not always WRONG.

i mean, if I can raise a dialouge like this in my local
community, then I've done what I wanted.

Protesting Protesting is flamebait enough to get a reaction
out of people and really get them talking about this
situation.

that's all I want to do.

definetly agree, sometimes things, *music comes to mind* are
underground for a reason.

sometimes things aren't poplular cuz they suck ass, I
completely agree with you. I'm in this for the dialouge and
spreading of ideas and communication in such grave times.

people should ALWAYS be talking amongst themselves so they
constantly understand the situation and ramifications of the
position their country is in.

Okay, well you're always going to have some dumbass
protesters in every situation, so you've just gotta deal
with that. Protesting protesting is not the way to go about
it, however... if you protest protesting, all that you come
off as saying is "fuck you, i want this war." ... and that
goes nowhere except to get people angry at you. If you made
a sign that pointed out some facts about the shitty things
Saddam has done, that might get the point across, but
somehow i still think you're ignoring the bigger picture,
which is that we don't really have a good reason to be going
to war right now except to distract the public from the fact
that we haven't caught the people who actually terrorized
us.

Or how bout North Korea? Someone pointed out this quote I
loved:

US: Hey Iraq, we know you have bombs, let us see them

Iraq: We don't have bombs

US: Fuck you, we know you do, show us

North Korea: We have bombs, bring it!

US: We're busy, come back later, now Iraq, show us those
bombs!

that would be too contrustive, I'm trying to stir the pot to
get dialouges like the one we've had.

all this came out from a simple two word statement.

=) I think you see the big picture a but more clearly than
the protesters I target with slurs, there is more to this
than war and peace.

'night

I just think you're targetting the wrong people with
slurs... i mean, take a look at this for

be... you're barking up the wrong tree in more ways than
just this message board.

sadly most of the protesting has been futile. the global
protests didnt happen until after troops had been deployed.
while these protests Were an effective means of
communicating the anti war sentiment, they were ultimately
too late. so the idea of protesting in london on sunday
seems twice as futile.. im just being realistic here..

and secondly we should be Getting Behind our men+women. lets
not treat those who come home as we did the vietnam
veterans.

protesting was not futile..
the US,UK, AUS, Spanish coalition knows very well where they
stand this time around....and so do the troops..get behind
them all you want but I dont think anybody would be able to
deny the sneaking suspision that they are out to commit
murders in an illegal, immoral war...

hmm... but really... in vietnam, the veterans didn't deserve
to be treated badly... many of them were drafted and forced
to fight a war they didn't want to... wheras there is no
draft now, the only people who are over there chose to get
involved in the military, knowing there was a potential they
would be at war. I'm not saying treat them like shit, but
I'll hold my judgements of who I'll get behind until I see
if they were worth getting behind or not.
