Just to let everyone know: another mass protest has been arranged for THIS SATURDAY 22nd March.
We really are on the brink of war, so it's vital that as many people as possible make the effort to come to London.

hell, if every idiot out waving a peace sign donated a dollar to a homesless shelter or world rights group instead of marching like nazis, they might actually do some good instead of wasting everyones time and taxpayer dollars making sure they don't riot.

when the last big uk march happened, the 'stop the war' coalition made a speech encouraging a national strike if iraq is invaded, and for people to flood whitehall, to compromise govt activities. it wouldnt stop the war, that's for sure..but it would cause problems for the govt and send out a message worldwide that the people of the uk don't approve of the govt's actions. i think this weekend won't be quite as peaceful as the last march, somehow.
i have to say, even though the march runs with the pretext of stopping the war, it doesn't take a vast amount of political knowledge to know that stopping the war is not the only objective of the demonstration.
even if you weren't alive during the vietnam war, you sure as hell know about it. you may even know that some people were opposed to it.
to silence these voices purely because you think you know their objectives and you don't think they will attain them is unreasonable.
i was gonna say fascism but that would be lazy.

protesting may not stop the war but without the millions of people who protested governments and other members of the public may get the false impression that everyone is in support of war. If you disagree speak out, this is what democracy is for isn't it?
BlatantEcho reckons if every "idiot" protester donates a dollar they might actually do some good, well the billions America plans to spend on this war are probablly more than enough to eliminate world hunger.

I don't want my government eliminating world hunger, I want it's people to do that.
You won't let your government go to war, but you'll let it do everything else.
sure salma, THAT'S the way the world works.

your government's money is your people's money and i see those billions serving a much better and more terrorist-eliminating agenda if it was used to wipe out world hunger/ health issues etc...

I think you missed the point.
Instead of waving a flag, why not wave a spatualla in a soup kitchen.
If the idea is a peace rally, why not make a difference instead of wasting time and tax payer dollars?
If those people did something besides march and complain, then maybe I would have the slightest respect for them.
I bust my hump at a soup kitchen on my friday nights, why can't they?

it makes a difference to speak out with your views instead of being silent and accepting things as they are...
and who are you to tell me and others which path I should embark on inorder to make a difference? I can protest if I wish and I don't want to be called an ignorant hippie because I'm not

you have the right to make a choice, but I am still implicate that it's a ridiculous one.
I mean, you have the right to stay at home and masturbate, or go out and get a job. One of those isn't quite acceptable, but you have the RIGHT to do it.
You have the RIGHT to protest, I like that. However, it's obviously idiotic to do so in the name of world peace and such, when you could be out making a difference in your community, ie, practicing what you waste your time preaching.

"obviously idiotic" to you maybe, i stand by my statement that speaking out with your views does in fact make a difference, different view points must be heard publicly or only one side gets to make its opinion widely known

I think people who say protesting doesn't make a difference have clouded vision. In the UK the war and opposition to it are tearing the Labour Party apart and it is a matter of time before Blair has to step down. We've already had one minister resigning and are about to have another.
These are people who supported the bombing of Serbia and Afghanistan, and previously Iraq. but now they feel the groundswell of opposition from below and have to act on it.
Those who say protest does no good need to learn their history.

Protests are the evidence of a cracks in the till now effective propaganda machines, the media bubbles most of Americans are wrapped in are just not stretching beyond certain points of concentration..
the all important good guy John Wayne, John Rambo battling on the side of the angels iconography to justify the wars just doesnt gel this time around...
nobody but mainstream America is in any doubt that the coalition is out to commit a genocide on an innocent populace...
