real new album? as in new tracks, not remixes, live songs,
etc. just wondering. i heard he's low on budget and whatnot.
but anyway, just wondering.

Trent Reznor writes teen angst poetry. That's all.

Gary Coleman's Anal Fantasia on 2001-10-03 03:20 [#00038600]

DC: Certainly it has to be self-conscious for me to
love it. But there's a certain pleasure in, like, imagining
the lives and souls of kids who adore Limp Bizkit or
Backstreet Boys. But then I guess they're kind of
self-conscious too. But don't you think it can get too
self-conscious? I mean Nine Inch Nails is too self-conscious
for me. And sometimes Stereolab is too self-conscious,
especially lately. It's like the self-consciousness has to
be somehow under stress from the artist's intense need or
feeling or something.

BG: Is Nine Inch Nails really that self-conscious?
Does Trent Reznor know he's writing high school poetry
lyrics?

DC: No, Reznor doesn't, you're right. But he thinks
he's writing the most tormented, profound music in the
world, and that shows.

BG: What is your future now that this cycle of works
has come to an end?

DC: Right now my plan is to change my work, not write
about what I've always written about anymore, or at least
for a while. I'm working a nonfiction novel, sort of very,
very loosely based on Kip Kinkel, the kid in Oregon who
killed his parents and schoolmates. And I'm collaborating
with this artist, Vincent Fecteau.
