I sub for a college radio station in Oberlin, OH and visit regularly to see what new things have come in. Well, last night I saw 2 copies of a US 5 track promo for the new record which I thought would be worth noting to you. The promo features the full-length versions of the tracks for which samples have been available on the official website (the order on the disc is: jynweythek ylow, taking control, avril 14th, melphace 6, nanou 2) and makes it clear that this is a US promo as it features some art I haven't seen before. It comes in a black paper sleeve which, on the front, features an Aphex like handwriting that says "Aphex Twin drukqs". On the back it features the track list in a very plain font, notes that "album in stores 10.23.01", gives the website address and lists the following catalogue number: Pro 500053-2 A press-release was mailed along with this that said that this was a very limited sampler and that our station would be one of the very first in the US to have the opportunity to play tracks from the record (Kind of funny since I've been playing Cymru Beats on the air since summer). The disc itself notes its distributed by London-Sire Records, part of the AOL Time Warner Company, and that they hold the rights to distribution in all countires exlcluding Europe. Nothing new there, just reinforcing that Warp still doesn't have exclusive US distribution rights for Aphex, unlike all the other artists on the label, regardless of previous releases on other US labels (I'm assuming those records will be distributed by said labels until their contracts end, like the Polygon Window records, while Warp will retain the exclusive rights to any new US releases.) The disc also has APHEX TWIN PROMO ONLY written in a design similar to that of a computer keyboard. The number keys which feature symbols above themselves are the best reference, only these are letters with symbols above them. Last but not least, anyone know who has US distribution rights for the vinyl edition? I want it on vinyl bad but I don't want to pay 50 bucks. Any info is appreciated. Thank you. fyayh |
