I believe that the Criterion DVDs do but I'm not speaking
from experience of those actual DVDs just experience of
Criterion on the past.

I saw the criterion version of seven samurai once. The
subtitles didn't bother me at all.

I can't really say anything about the quality of the
subtitles though as (a) pretty much everything on tv is
subtitled around here so I'm used to it and (b) english is
not my native language anyway.

the reason im asking is because I just saw all these films
with newly translated subtitles at a nearby theater and the
one I got just butchered the subtitles there awful.

i saw "drunken angel" (on video) the other week. While its
not a samurai film, toshiro mifune and that other chap
kurasawa uses... the leader of the Seven Samurai, Takagi i
think, they are bloody legends those gu, this film is worth
getting too Great acting and just pure magic human-condtion
stories... Kurasawa was a master. Gitta love "Yojimbo" and
"Sanjuro" for that samurai coolness!

yep ive seen all those, are you speaking of Takashi Shimura
(he was the main guy in Ikiru too). the mifune ones that I
havent seen are:

I live in Fear
Throne of Blood
Hidden Fortress

Ive seen all the other kurosawa\mifune films--by the way
every one is phenomenal.

Throne of Blood
..... you know its MacBeth, kurasawa style? You want arrows,
this is human porcupine time!

Hidden Fortress... hilarious! Toshiro sports a pair of hot
pants the whole movie! ....... its actually re4ally good and
Geroge Luicas based c3p0 and r2d2 on the two main characters
as well as some of the plot in star wars on this plot!.....
excellent stuff with amazing set-pieces!

dunno about "I live in Fear". i wait in hope!
